Exclamation help me diag please? video included... probably transmission?

Hello folks,

so just a few days ago I was driving down a highway here in Los Angeles when out of nowhere I just started hearing this noise (as you can hear in the video I am attaching here) and the car would only make that noise (also no warning lights went off or anything) but there is 0 acceleraion. I bough this pup from a friend who had it's engine rebuilt for 2k and have driven it for about two years with only some mostly minor issues.

This does not seem minor.

Could anyone please point me on what to do? What could this be? I'm not the type to attempt to DYI it at this point, but I'd hope to at least know what I'm possibly looking at, so that if it's some outrageous repair I'm looking at for $3000 or who knows how much? I will simply have to say bye bye, let it go and move on.

Hope the vid helps, if there's anything else I could check

also my obd stopped working (I have thinkdiag, the led doesn't light up - not sure if an issue with the port, or the tool - mobile does find its bluetooth signal, but fails toconnect)
radio also stopped working the same day (now just says protecting - send service ) even after pressing the reset hole...

I tried to document thoroughly what is going on in the vids... if someone could advise, I would appreciate it massively

what it could be? cost approx.? worrth it?
the exact model derived off of its vin is:
2004 Jaguar X-TYPE 4dr Sdn 3.0L
V6 Cylinder Engine

At a guess the transfer box has collapsed or one of the driveshaft joints allowing all the drive to spin away at the point its broken.

Oh I see. Ok, thank you so much for your reply.
So if it were one or the other. How much am I approximately looking at in labor And parts to get it back up and running? Really ballpark is ok. Whether $200 or $2000 kind of.
Located in Los Angeles.
thanks again!!

Your best bet is to find a Jag Indy, drive shaft a few hundred dollars and a used transfer box a bit more. I don’t know the prices in the US but you need to get the fault diagnosed so you can start looking for quotes to fix it.

I see, hmm... what's a Jag Indy?
so we're talking a approx. $2000 repair at least?
I'm thinking it's just not worth it then

anyone any more thoughts on this? If it's the driveshaft(transfer box) I'm looking at $2000 which is more than the car costs... does it make sense to repair?
or is there any way to go about it for less?
I'm kinda torn, any input is appreciated, thanks folks

Default Gearbox or TC

Depends on the overall condition of the rest of the car. Labor is going to be the major expense. You can find a used gearbox or TC for about $500 each with a warranty. Of course rebuilt will be considerably more.
Look around the web for the parts to get an idea. Then find a shop that can do the job (if at all), and inquire about the labor cost. I believe that replacing the gearbox and TC as a unit is cheaper, I believe

I would say you definitely got your moneys worth out of the car for $2K for 2 years. If the transfer case is bad, I don't think it is worth replacing. I would expect that in LA, it is at least $2K minimum to get that done, and anyone who knows what they are doing will mostly likely not do the job for less. And in general, in CA the parts required to deal with smog issues on a 20 year old small volume car are going to be difficult and expensive, so that risk is high and you can't even connect to the OBD, so I would say time to walk away.

If it is a front half-shaft or the center driveshaft it is most likely less than $1K repair, but the only way to tell is to look at them underneath the vehicle to see if they intact or broken.

If I may...: I am generally of the opinion that there are two MO's to keep a Jag on the road:
Either you have deep pockets, or you are a Jack of all trades (specifically automotive orientated...) ...and you do everything yourself...

So even if you normally do not fix anything on cars...: Is there any chance, you could check the ATF level (fluid in the transmission), and if there is sufficient fluid in the transfer box? (Make sure the car cannot fall onto you while you are underneath! - Use stands.) The noises are really bad, and I think this sounds expensive - unless for some miracle it is just low fluid levels (which also means that you have/had a leak), and the other miracle would have to be that you did not already kill everything due to those low fluid levels...

And "0 acceleration" means that the Jag does not drive at all?
