Cool Help please.

Need help please. I have an 2004 X-Type 3.0. Love the car but having small issues. Need to do a tune up and I need to replace my ignition coils. I've been doing my research and I keep coming across differences in coil pack so I got the info off the coil thats in my car. Part # 1x4312029ab or 0997000620.
The first part #when I look up the number is saying it's for an S type on one site and I have a X type.
I guess I just need some help on where to get what I need?
Car has over 100,000 miles on it and I'm getting misfire codes on 4 out of 6 cylinders. And 1 or 2 codes for air flow.
My second issue is while driving on the interstate when I get up to 75 mph I noticed once I get to 3000 rpm's my car has a jerking or hesitation and I have to keep under 3000 rpm's.
Or when I let off the gas to turn a corner when I go to accelerate it kicks into gear.
My thinking was tune up replace plugs and coils and get the engine light codes reset.
Am I on the right track or do I need a different approach?

Welcome to the forum Dennis,

I've moved these questions from your Intro to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

4 outta 6 cylinders misfiring? More likely plugs than coils... Or whatever sensor etc which fires the coils. Possibly whoever last removed the coils did not seat and lock the coils correctly... Commom problem with this style of lockable coil packs.
Front 3 plugs are easy to remove, check out their condition before buying anything.
Which cylinder #'s are misfiring?

Dennis: It's unlikely 4 coils went bad at the same time. Check for oil in the spark plug wells before replacing the coils. The firewall bank and radiator bank each have a common well for all 3 spark plugs. When engine oil leaks into the common well (not uncommon after 100+K miles), 2 or all 3 spark plugs can misfire. If this occurs on both banks, it could cause 4+ spark plugs to misfire.

If you are using fancy 'split fire' spark plugs, replace them with traditional plugs such as Autolite Double Platinum APP605's. People report problems when they try fancy plugs in our X-Types.

The engine won't go above 3000 RPM because it's in limp mode to protect the engine until the misfiring spark plugs are fixed.

What is the "common well"?

iownme: Some engines have separate, dedicated wells for each sparkplug. For these engines, when oil leaks into a well, it affect the single sparkplug in that well. causing it to misfire.

Our 2.5L & 3.0L engines have 2 "common" wells, one housing the 3 firewall-side sparkplugs, and the other well housing the 3 radiator-side sparkplugs. When oil leaks into one of these common wells, it can cause 1, 2 or all 3 sparkplugs in that well to misfire, depending on how much oil has leaked into the common well.

When Dennis describes 4 of 6 spark plugs misfiring, the cause might be significant oil in both sparkplugs wells, each housing 3 sparkplugs.

Does this make sense?

Start cheap and easy, pull the MAF out and clean the hell out of it, way up inside it are sensors also, use the whole can up on it.

iownme: Here's a picture of the common sparkplug well of an X-Type head (2.5L & 3.0L). When oil leaks into the well, it can cause 1, 2, or all 3 sparkplugs to misfire, if enough oil leaks in.

For comparison, the Chevy 4.2L straight 6 head has dedicated wells for each sparkplug. Oil leaked into one well causing that sparkplug to misfire, but the other sparkplugs are in separate wells and were not affected.

Thanks for that... Still doesnt look familier... Guess that means its time for new plugs.. Lol
The last attempt to change plugs found that the last bolt on the upper intake was just turning in its little brass captive nut, so removing the intake was not possible.
