I've removed your duplicate posts on this problem.
Please take time to visit https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/ so we can say 'Hello'
You need to read the OBD codes - if you haven't got a reader many of the big car parts chains will read them for free.

gbmommy, first off, welcome to the forums. I think you will find a lot of very useful information here. But, like Steve mentioned, we are a friendly bunch and we like to get to know one another. There you will be able to learn who the movers and shakers are around here.

As for your tranny problem. Based on your problem, I would say to spend the $100 and take the car to a tranny shop and see what they say. Hopefully one of the members here can give you a recommendation. Does not even need to be a Jaguar dealership (the tranny is the same as what goes in the Lincoln LS and is very similar to what a lot of other manufacturers use like VW, Toyota, etc). Let them see what they can figure out by connecting up their computer and seeing what the computer is doing. That will tell them a lot.

From what I can tell, you have 1 of 3 issues going on. The easiest is simply that you have a slight leak and your tranny fluid is getting low, which will cause the tranny to sometimes slam into gear. You may even notice that the car will not shift initially and then suddenly go into gear. The second problem is the tranny fluid pump is failing and not providing enough pressure to shift the tranny and once it can do it, the tranny moves too fast. The last one is the solenoid for a specific gear in the tranny is sticking. So the tranny does everything correctly, but then this solenoid does not play, leading to the tranny thinking there is an issue and it tries to compensate for it.

The shop will be able to give you a lot more detail about this. They should also be able to give you an idea of what it will cost to repair too.

It was the throttle body position sensor! Does that mean I need a whole new throttle body or just the sensor?

Think I should try cleanin my whole throttle body? And see if that will solve it? It hasn't done it in over a week now. I don't see why it only does it sometimes.

Throttle position sensor reads the rotational position of the butterfly shaft from outside the throttle body, regardless of how dirty or clean your throttle body is. The sensor could be intermittent mechanically, electrically, or even thermally. If it has thrown a trouble code, I'd replace it first.

2002-2008 jaguar x-type throttle body factory 3.0 | eBay
Cheapest I found that might work, and it should just be plug-and-play meaning you remove and replace it and you're good to go as per this site

http://www.justanswer.com/jaguar/4fr...ttle-body.html

or try here

I would do the whole throttle body. Could be a fault with a potentiometer inside the throttle body.

Is it safe gettin one from a scrap yard? I found one for 350 with a 6 month warranty. Are they hard to change?

gbmommy, if you're going to buy one from a scrapyard, just buy the one from ebay or a cheaper one in the car-part.com link I sent you from a scrapyard! CLICK ON MY LINKS AND READ THEM! My post should explain everything! Just buy the one from ebay for $80, install it, and be on your way and save yourself some serious cash.

The throttle body is really easy to change. The FAQ for spark plugs removes the throttle body before servicing the plugs. Easy change, should take less than an hour to get it all done.

Warranties for these are not really worth it for $350. You can buy a used one for around $100 so you can buy three replacements before you will even break even with the warranty which in my mind is completely overkill.

gbmommy, as long as you don't undo the TPS from the throttlebody, no adjusting is necessary. If you were to put a new TPS on the car, you may have to play with it a little bit. The short of the adjustment is that you connect up a multimeter across the 2 wires going to the TPS. Turn the car on, but do not start the motor. The multimeter should be reading somewhere right around 1.000 VDC. You will loosen the screws and then twist the TPS until you get 0.99 VDC (not 1.000). At this point, tighten down the screws so the multimeter stays at 0.99 VDC and then disconnect the multimeter.

This is the trick, if the voltage gets above 1.000 VDC (even 1.001), the engine computer thinks the throttlebody is open and will therefore attempt to close the throttlebody more, leading to a possible low idle/ periodic engine stall. If you get it below 0.99, you have to step on the gas that much more before the engine computer thinks that you are stepping on the gas to make the engine RPMs come up. So, there is a "sweet spot" you need to find. The closer you can get it to 1.000 (say, 0.997), the less you will have to step on the gas before the car will start to go. This will give you the illusion of better throttle response.
