HID kit
What’s up guys. Just wondering if anyone has a link or name brand of a plug and play hid kit for my Xtype that is truly plug and play. Just for my main low beam headlights. I believe they are H1 bulbs. No modifications needed. Thx for any info.
NYC, what you are after does not exist. What you would want would have to all get put into the headlight assembly andt here is not enough room to do that. There will be some modification required. With that being said, the modifications that will be required is drilling a 1" hole (the size of the bung thta comes with the kit so you can run wires into and out of the headlight assembly back cover and then you will need to attach a lug to the positive wire of the HID kit. YO uwill also need to attach a ring lug to the negative wire of the HID kit.
As for install, you will remove the cover off of the back of the headlight housing and drill the 1" hole and mount the bung that has the wires running through it. From there, you will mount the ballast box on the frame under the headlight assembly. You wlll then plug in the wires from the bulb into the ballast box and the 2 wires left, one goes to the frame of the car and gets bolted down (can find another wire that is already bolted and add this wire to the bottom of this stack (NOT THE TOP!!!!!!!). The other wire will run back up into the headlight assembly and get connected to the wire that you pulled off of the headlight bulb. Please note the ballast power wires (the one going to the headlight bulb wire and the one you bolt to the frame) need to be wired with the proper polarity or the HID bulbs will not work. As a general rule (check the instructions to confirm), the wire going to the headlight bulb will be the red wire and the one getting bolted to the frame will be a black wire.
As for brands of kits, I have tried a few and the kit that I have found only 1 kit that gave me years of trouble free use. If you can, find a kit made by MaxLux. Yes, they cost a little bit more, but you can either spend a little more now or be buying new kits every year to replace the cheaper kits. Your call. I am running on 6 years with a MaxLux kit with no issues.

If you want plug and play use leds. I did my fiances volvo as she has a hard time seeing at night when she comes over. I live in the country with no street lights. Night and day difference and much brighter that hid. So much so i may switch my hids in my jaguar to leds. I have the cutoffs, she and you do not so you will get flashed occassionally. And better check the laws of new york as my understanding is theyre the east coast california.
Ok. I’ve decided to go with LED headlights for my low beams headlights. Can anyone recommend me a brand name or send me a link for a set of led bulbs that will fit and not move around in the oem light housings please. Just want them to stay in place securely and be able to put the metal clip that holds the bulbs in place back on. Thx.
I took on the same project a few months ago. Ordered an LED kit that I was assured was plug-and-play only to find out that the existing bulb retaining clips wouldn't work and the bulb was too large to allow the rear cover on the headlight to close. The company took the bulbs back and refunded by money. Decided to go with an HID conversion kit only to find the same problem with the retaining clips. After much trial-and-error modification, I was able to get the clips to fit in a kind of half-assed way.
I'm not entirely happy with the result, but don't feel like going through the process all over again. Perhaps someone on the forum can provide a brand that fits based on their personal experience. I wouldn't trust a manufacturer's assurance.
