Whas up guys. I got this plug and play HID kit I’ve been wanting to install for a while. I unboxed it today and used a spare headlight housing I have. My question. It seems like this all put together correctly. Just want someone to check to make sure. Before I install it on my Jag. I’ve read before that I need to add
a ground wire. But it seems to have a wire harness that connects to the factory power and ground wires and directly to the HID ballast. I’m aware of drilling a hole in the back of the dust cover to let some wiring thru. Here’s some pictures. Please lemme know if this looks good to go and I’ll install them ASAP. Thx in advance.
NYCJAG, what you have will work. The one change that I would recommend is taking the ground wire from inside the headlight housing and disconnecting it. Then back the wire out of the plug that is going to go through the headlight cover and ground that wire straight to the body of the car. I say this for 2 reasons (kinda one in the same). 1) The ground wire of the headlight housing for standard halogen (H1) bulbs is not capable of handling the starting current plus all the other currents in the headlight housing. So, over time, this is going to be a weak link and will fail on you. 2) ground straight to the body gives a better ground and will ensure you get the maximum voltage for the ballast so it will ignite every time (low voltage can cause the HID not to light up when turned on). So, 3 wires are going to go through the headlight cover (2 for the HID bulb and the power wire from the headlight bulb). You can use a littel bit of RTV to plug the hole for the 4th wire. That way you do not get water inside the headlight housing.
