Default How do I remove the sensor on the cam covers of a 02 X Type?

I have oil leaking into the sparkplug tubes and have removed in intake manifold and cam cover bolts and wiring brackets but not sure how to remove the sensor from the cam cover. The sensor seema to be holding the cam cover on. Your assistance would be gretly appreciated!

Hi Guy
Welcome to the forum.
Do you have a copy of JTIS? There are instructions for downloading it your computer here on the forum. That info would be included in the engine disassembly section. Fortunately I have not had to acquire that experience yet.

You can find it in this ---> link

I went to the JTIS and looked at that. It seems to be the actuator for the cam timing, not a sensor. Looks like it stays behind and the cover slips off it. But I didn't find anything like lock rings holding it on. Maybe someone who's had one off before can comment.

Thanks AlfaVeloce, You are exactly right. I sprayed some liquid wrench on the actuators and the cam covers slid off of them. Thanks again!

Hey I just changed out the VVT solenoid code still there p1396
I also changed out gaskets camshaft cover is there any advice for what steps should I take to try to fix the solution I have to get my car inspected - strangely it looks like the car has no effect car driving perfect there is no check engine light on dashboard but when I use the reader it shows up any advice would be great

Once again I had a issue. P1396 had it for over a month I just changed out the solenoid + gaskets no luck code still there after very expensive repair - it may be wires if so how do I inspect wires or fix - my car is already rejected I need to fix this ASAP -

I have no experience with this code but, this is from the workshop manual page 1306.

I've searched the document but can find no references to the various connectors EN42 or EN61. Perhaps someone else might know.
Good luck.

Edit: - I found this in the wiring diagram

Just found out that the solenoid electrical connector the green wire which is for the ground was not functional so I cut into it and ground it into another location now it reads when I use meter it shows that it's grounded- but code still appears p1396
