Default I found a small hole in the exhaust system

What effects will this have on my cars performance? Will it cause back pressure and give a rougher idle? I'm sure it will fail the NCT over this.

should I nip this in the bud now or can I leave it another month or 2

Whereabouts in the exhaust system,?
Manifold, pipes, cats, silencers?
Can you just slap some exhaust tape over it?

Are you talking about the drain holes to allow condensation to drain out and not fill the exhaust with water? If so theyre there for that reason

The area around the hole is very fragile from the rust

Default Pic won't upload

I can't seem to upload a picture but the hole is in the catalyst exhaust pipe on the far side just in the grove where the catalyst connects to the rest of the exhaust

Can you get in there with some exhaust tape or Gun Gum or similar?

Default Gun gum

I filed off most of the rust around the hole and have it a little sanding before I packed on a load of gun gum.
I put on a lot to make sure I prevent another hole appearing anytime soon. I will replace this part in a year unless it gets worse in the meantime.

this is just my quick fix to pass the NCT in a couple of months.
