Default ignition coils

hey guys I have been looking for some information on this and can't find it maybe somebody here will know, I actually have 2 questions:
I have a 2002 x type 2.5 jag and I have a misfire on cyl 5 first need to know position order of cylinders so I can id cyl 5.
second question is are s type and x type ignition coils interchangeable?
I've seen sets of ignition coils for s type much cheaper then for x type so I need to know so I don't buy the wrong ones. thank you in advance and may you all have a very Happy New Year!!!

Default ignition coils

Luis,
I am not sure wethter the s and x type coils are the same but I believe they are not.
That said,if you stand on the passenger side facing the engine, the cylinders on your left(against firewall) are 1,3,and 5 going away from you.
The cylinders on your your right(near radiator) are 2,4, and 6.
Hope this helps.!!
PS.......Don't get the auto parts store versions,I have done this and had to get them from Jaguar and replace again....not worth the extra time or moneyKeep us up to date fellow Jagster

Hey. I actually just replaced the coils on my 3.0. From what I understand, the coils are not interchangeable. I noticed the same thing, s-type are half the price of the x-type. Go with the x type ones.

Cylinder 5 is the right cylinder in back of the engine. (Standing at the front of the car and looking at the engine, it is on the far side of the engine, all the way on the right.). In order to change it, you have to take the intake manifold off. Not a bad job. About six bolts on top and three on the back. While you have it off, you might as well change the plugs and coils for all the cylinders if you can afford it.

Check out RockAuto.com for coils. I don't know if they are good or bad, but they offer something like 4 different types. I bought Airtex coils and haven't had a problem yet. I read somewhere the OEM coils are like NGK or something at about $90 a coid, but couldn't verify. The airtex cost me about $35 a coil. If you can do OEM, do it. I didn't have the extra moolah.

If you go to your local autoparts store.(autozone, advanced) ask for coil packs from a 2003 Lincoln Ls 3.0. It is the same engine as our x types. They are 45 bucks each and lifetime warranty. And as long as your that far. I would get the upper and lower intake gaskets as well. 35 bucks for the set of 12.there is 6 upper and 6 lower. Any questions. Pm me and I will help you as much as I can.

Good luck,
The Dr.

jaghelp.com: P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and P0306 on you Jaguar X-type

is a map with their cylinders to be certain you have the right ones.

ok Guys first of all Happy New Year a bit late but non the less
and secondly thanks for all your help about this issue, what I have come to understand
after all research and all of the help I got from you all is, that main difference between
ignition coils is just the 2 pin and 4 pin as long as I get 4 pin ford it seems that it will work
I disassembled my x type's intake to get to my cylinder 5 and what I found out was incredible, the coil on 5 was the same as all the rest but the one on cyl 2 is different the top seems to be bigger then the other ones,(after taking the coils out I realized that the bigger looking coil is a Denso and the other ones seem to be aftermarket brand, they only have a number but no brand name) will post pics later if I can,so be patient
so bottom line is I got some ford 4 pin coils from a friend will try them and see how they work, and will post findings.
Now If anybody knows how to test coils with a multimeter and can tell me the process would really appreciate it. Thx in advance guys and have a good day.
