Angry Immobilizer and engine not turning

Just did an engine change on my cat 2.5 V6 and everything bolted on all cables plugged in all happy until I go to the front put the key in ignition everything as it should I turn the key to start it aaaannnnndddddd NOTHING HAPPENS, well annoyed but shortly after I realize that the Red Alarm Light is constantly on and after a few seconds it flashes, from what I understand it flashes code 24(flashes 2 times the pause and flashes 4 time and stops and re does the sequence) could anyone advice what to do now???

In common with others across the years I can't find that code. Be sure it is 24 because you'll be down many wrong alleys if not!

I did find that it might be a CAN fault. Possibly a missing terminating resistor. (Should be one in the PCM and the other in the ICM - see workshop manual.)

This has the flowchart

http://www.bluejag.co.uk/Jaguar-XT-T...t%20System.pdf

" Engine cranks but will not start
If the engine is cranking it means that the ECM is enabled with respect to PATS.
If PATS was disabled the ECM would not engage the starter.
This could be confirmed by verifying the PATS LED prove-out (illuminated solid for 3 seconds) or by
reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the instrument cluster and ECM "

Manual or Auto?
If auto could it be on inhibit from Trans?

If manual I would backtrack on all connections (engine earths) particularly around starter and or fuses/relays.

If it's the CAN terminator then you'll need a DVOM and I suspect an OBD tool won't be able to read any CAN data.

Everything switched off, CAN (a worldwide standard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus) should be 60ohm.

Very interesting read, thanks. Takes me back to the old Novel coax network cable with a terminating resistor on each end of the cable run.

So where are the resistors located?

What items are on the CAN Buss?

There was never a followup with code 24, which I've seen in three instances now.

I will follow up on my Solenoid, ECM, No Start thread with JagV8 and others as we work through this issue.

NW1996, are you still around?

@Drjag, his last post was 37 months ago and I have never run into or seen him here in my time in the forum.

Code 24 =

Hi, that's another good link and I read through it. However, my reading was 600 ohms and so it isn't necessarily pointing to the connection between CANbus and ECM.

Here is my Post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...5/#post2170193

I will try to narrow it down and post the solution when I'm finished.
