i just read the faq for doing the procedure...and a poster with an 04 3.0 (what i have) said his center bearing did not have the 3 notches to insert the needle into. No-one answered that post, so i'm wondering what to do if i get under the car and find i also don't have those notches....anyone else come across this on their car? and what is the answer?

Under the cap there is a standard bearing number 6013 2RS. I do not know what kind of notches you expect to find on it. The whole bearing is easy to change.

in the FAQ about greasing the driveshaft bearing it shows in the pic and text that there are 3 notches around the bearing where a needle can be inserted to grease the bearings.
Another forum member with an 04 X noted that his bearing did not have these notches (at 10o/c 6o/c and 2o/c) mine doesn't either...guess now its a moot point as i now have found that the bearing assembly is totally shot. Thanks for the info about being able to replace just the bearing.
Sorry if i've been too quick to re-post a new thread about the bearing being loose

does the driveshaft just slide through the bearing? or does it need to be taken to a machine shop to remove the old bearing and have the new one fitted?.
i just ordered a new bearing online for about $20...good quality from a bearing manafacturer. i called them and spoke at length about bearings in general...very knowledgeable. I dont have their info in front of me...let me know if you want me to post the contact info. It seems the mark up on bearings at the auto store is quite high

Yes please post the contact information, part number etc.
I am wondering if anyone has done a "how to" with pictures.
I havent been on he forums in quite some time but joined back in 2008 and in 2009 when I had to replace my prop shaft due to whining no one mentioned it can be repaired.
Just wondering if this was common knowledge or if someone discovered this recently.
When do you think you are going to get yours fixed? I would love to hear how it turns out

here is a link to the bearing you need. phone # is 863-248-8499
6013-2RS, 6013-ZZ Premium Ball Bearings, 65x100x18 | 1000620
as soon as it arrives i'll be doing the work. I'll try and compile a "how to" with pics.
you can also google the bearing part # which is 6013-2rs.
I'm not convinced my bearing is the problem as there is a huge amount of play between my driveshaft and bearing carrier. If this was a shot bearing i'm sure my ride would be much worse than it is. I'm thinking there is something inside the d/s support like a rubber donut that has failed. Will post back once i have mine opened up.
It seems were on our own with this problem...no advice from any jagtechs or forum experts...just you..I and google

Definitely 2RS, rubber seal.
But finally, I do not recommend this whole procedure, аfter I went through it.
Тhe bearing and protective caps were originally sealed in rubber. After removal, they are destroyed and obviously no longer hermetic.
But, on the other hand, it became clear that no lubrication was not possible before. No needles, no guns.
Sorry for my poor English.

No special equipment is needed. The pictures are arranged in order of operations. I only used a hammer and chisel. The third photo shows the ring in which I hit and is deformed by blows.
Besides these two rings which are visible on the second and third picture, there are two inwards and sealed with rubber. They can also be distorted when pulling them.
I also did all that in my garage by myself.
