Information required on front crossmember brace
I noticed that some x types have a front crossmember brace, which is bolted across the subframe.
The part number is C2S44919, and is listed for petrol and diesel.
I assume this strengthens the subframe, just wondering what other benefits does it give ?

Uummmm....interfers with #C2S18834 replacement? Lol. On another forum there was a comment that is had been added to "XJ-S convertibles to reduce what
is commonly referred to as scuttle shake". Whatever that means.

Complete tangent to this topic, but where do you find the exploded parts diagrams like JBzXJ40 attached to his response? I found a great site with all the parts diagrams and part numbers for another car I have but I can't find a similar site for the X-Type.
The plot thickens regarding the brace.
On youtube is saw a late diesel x type, with the brace being removed together with the undertray, when the owner was servicing the car.
The video clearly shows 2 bolts per side, approx. half way down each side of the subframe.
I have just checked mine, and no bolt holes exist for it, so I am clearer as to when the subframe bolt holes were standard on them.
The parts catalogue does not have any minimum vin code range it is applicable to.

Scuttle shake (sometimes called cowl shake in the US) is the term used for the phenomenon experienced in many convertible or open top automobiles where, due to lower structural rigidity caused by the lack of a roof, the middle section of the chassis flexes, causing the bulkhead in front of the passenger compartment to move and vibrate when the vehicle is subject to uneven road surfaces.[1][2] Passengers feel it as a noticeable vibration and shudder.
Yes, it is #6 & explosions I seen were on several supplier sites.
