Cool P1000

good afternoon from Texas. We had replace 2 O2 sensors, (the old girl was throwing a P1647 and a P1000) Now that the sensors are installed, and we ran her a bit, the engine light and P1647 code went away. We still have the P1000 code. How long do we need to run her before that code goes away? No other code or engine light has appeared. I need to get her inspected, but I don't believe she will pass with as is.

Thank you

Mickey

Here are the drive cycles for the O2 sensors.

HEATED OXYGEN SENSORS MONITOR DRIVE CYCLE
Upstream (Universal) oxygen sensors:
1 Engine OFF; cooling fans inoperative > 20 seconds.
2 Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
3 Drive the vehicle between 3000 – 4000 rpm at a steady speed. Lift foot completely off accelerator and coast to a stop within 30 seconds. Do not touch accelerator
pedal for 4 seconds after coming to a stop.
4 Repeat step 3.
5 Idle engine for 11 minutes.
Downstream oxygen sensors:
1 Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
2 Drive the vehicle steadily between 48 – 97 km/h (30 – 60 mph) for 10 minutes.
3 Drive the vehicle above 3000 rpm in 4th gear at a steady speed. Lift foot completely off accelerator and coast for 30 seconds.
Oxygen sensor heaters:
1 Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
2 Idle engine for 3 minutes.

Once all of the monitors are completed the P1000 should be replaced with a P1111 That is the code you always want to see.

There is no "how long" unless the car has no faults. There's a drive cycle in the workshop manual etc which points the way but again it relies on no faults.

With faults, it can be Catch-22: would flag codes if the cycle completed but can't because it doesn't. Fairly rare but can then be tough to diagnose what's wrong.

OBD can tell you which monitor(s) have not run OK and you then need to figure why.
