Default Jag Dealer said don't change X case oil

After reading many of the posts recomending transfer case oil changes and procedures, I took my '03 to the dealer in London Ontario for an oil change. They said it is not neccessary to change it and leave it alone. Thoughts anyone ?

Ide change it everyone ive ever done comes out black. That being said, im sure theyre worried that theyll change and put in fresh oil and then itll go out coincidentally and youll be back asking for a new t case. To dealers with lawyers aiming lawsuit guns at them its not worth the money they make to risk paying for a new t case. Theyde probobly tell you the same for a trans flush too, we wont do them either though i dont agree with that either and do it on all mine and friends too. A independant would more than likely do it although i know a few shops around here that wont even change oil on high mileage cars for the same reasons. Others would just tell you to go pound sand if they change it for you and you later came in saying that. But dealers have deeper pockets and big target painted on the buildings.....and to think our govenment is run by primarily attorneys...

The dealer in London, Ontario has been mentioned several times on JF, and never favourably.

Don't believe them! At 170 k, my sister's '02 2.5 Sport was EMPTY, and the case on my '03 3.0 was only half-full at 120 k. When you consider that that vital piece of the drivetrain is lubricated with about a PINT of oil, why take any chances? The drain/refil adaptor is easy to make, and the peace of mind is.....priceless!

My 2001 2.5 at 122km was also bone dry, nothing came out (even with a hand suction pump)

Your car - your choice.

Don't do it and you'll be in the monority here as most have done it, are doing it or will be doing it.

Yes Jaguar says don't change the oil, but then Jaguar doesn't care what happens after the warranty is over. I have changed my TC oil since 2007. Recently I did the TC case drain modification that Astromorg has posted. The TC case holds about 350 ml below the drain plug (it's more like a half-drain plug). If you drain through the TC plug you should add about 350 ml. If you overfill you'll get leakage out the vent and mechanics telling you the the TC seal has failed. The leakage through the vent is really no problem. All in all a stupid Ford design.
