Jag - X-Type 3.0 Petrol with LPG - Help
Hello
I have just purchased this car and I've killed it
The car has issues with a leaking radiator which I was going to repair, it was running hot but on on this day or journey
So I filled up with regular petrol, filled the coolant as it was slightly low.
Was driving along and the car cut out completely I was low on lpg but had petrol and the low level warning light hadn't come on.......
I put the car in to gear as I was coasting and it started but only to cut out again. I had to get the car towed home...................
So since then, I have pulled all the spark plugs and replaced them and tested them and they all spark as they should. The pistons are going up and down in each of the chambers. The valves are opening and closing on both banks. Fuel is being squirted from the injectors and the spark plugs are getting covered in fuel...........
But the car wont start
It started on the button before it cut out before.........
When I was driving it was fine there was no errors or anything. After it cut out and only after it cut out the temp guage when to maximum but the car had already cut out and died the second time so it wasnt hot for long.
I am out of idea's as it cranks but wont fire and I cant work out why. I have tonight looked at the brc lpg tank and its empty and in the red so could that be the issue? The petrol gauge isnt showing the yellow light and I can hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the ignition on and I have pressed the cutout switch and all seems to be ok with that
Any idea's???? I am quite technically minded and have spent hours checking everything I can think off. I want to do a compression test but my halfords compression gauge doesnt fit in the spark plugs for some reason I have tired and tired. But when you turn over the engine there is clear gush of air from each of the spark plugs........
Thank you in advanced for any help you can offer me
Dominic

With all this rain you haven't got a water leak into the fuel tank have you? Try squirting some fuel from an injector into a small container, then take it well away from the car and try and light it. I had this once years ago, took me ages to work out what the problem was, the "fuel" even smelled of petrol but it would not burn since it was 99% water.
Update -
Brought a new clarke compression test tool...... bad news the rear bank is reading above 90 psi on each cylinder
The front bank cylinder 1 (left as you look at the car) 60 psi (if that) cylinder 2 (middle) 10 psi (if that) cylinder 3(right as you look at the car) 60 psi.
So i think I have killed the front head gasket
I also brought a fault code reader there are 15 fault codes stored but as the head is fooked I didnt note them down.
Is it worth me putting it all back together, clearing the fault codes. Then try to get it running with easy start, then pour in some steal seal>?
Or is it drop the monster of an engine and strip it down and replace the front head, timing chain etc.....
Thank you again
