Default Leak coming from top of intake (Picture)

I have a loud hissing noise coming from the side of the upper intake on my 2002 X with the 3.0 motor. I was hoping someone could tell me if this is normal, or do I need to have it checked out. I attached a picture and circled the area that is leaking in red.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jon

Jon, if you go to the auto parts store, you can get new O-rings for that part. They are like $15 each, but replacing them is really easy. You can undo the 2 bolts, pull out the old o-ring and then slide the new one one. Pretty easy job. These o-rings are known for failing, so, you are not the only one that is suffering from this. Should do the one under the one that you are worried about. Normally once one goes, the other isn't far behind.

Thanks for the info! I'll pull it off tomorrow and see if I can find replacement o-rings. By the way, do you know what the name of this part is?

Thanks!
Jon

Jon, it is the upper intake tuning valve. The other one that I mention is called the lower intake tuning valve.

Thanks for the info! I had an o-ring in the garage that was the same size. I just swapped it out. As far as the lower, I couldn't see any ways to swap it out without taking off the upper intake and I don't plan to ever do that again if I can help it. I just move the o-ring around and greased it.

No more whistling noise!

Thanks guys!

the lower one , you can do it with out take off the intake manifold , just put it in from other side ( the side with connector) because it's rubber , you just need to stretch the ring little. and cut the old one with a knife when you take the old one off

I honestly couldn't figure out how you were stretching it around the lower tuning valve. I just loosened 3 or 4 of the upper intake bolts closest to the tuning valve and lifted the upper intake up enough to remove the valve. Then I just swapped the o-ring.
