Default motor mount question

Fact 1...I know my bottom motor mount (next to the driveshaft) needs to be replaced. The rubber has split.

Fact 2....my drivshaft center support rubber bushing is torn all the way around.

Fact 3...the driveshaft I just replaced it with is causing more vibration than the torn one I just removed (donor driveshaft had 20k miles)

So my question has several directions.

Could the bad motor mount have caused my driveshaft center support to tear?

Could the bad motor mount be causing the vibration I,m feeling in the driveshaft..I,m sure I can even feel it at standstill.

Can my choice of grease in the cv joint at the end of the driveshaft affect vibration?....I ask because after I put more grease in, it seems worse.

All pretty technical but I,m sure someone can figure it
Thanks

After looking on ebay I cannot find any mounts which look like the one I'm talking about.
It is at the bootom rear of the engine...just in front of the driveshaft. It is aluminum and triangular with rubber inside. There are 2 bolts holding it in place...if no replies by tomorrow I,ll take a pic. I need to know what it is so I can buy a replacement

hi yes i know what your talking about if it is worn like you say it is, then that would most probably be the reason your car is vibrating as when the car is moving and your putting power down it will cause the engine to swing a little in turn moving the drive shafts off centre and so on. Not sure of the part number but its called the rear engine mount, bolts from the engine (or gearbox, not sure) to the chassis. Can be replaced best way to find this part is most likely on the uk ebay. Ryan.

It just occured to me that when I bought the car about 8 months ago, there was only 1 bolt in that mount and I had to buy another bolt to secure it. I wonder if the previous owner removed that bolt to get rid of the vibration rathen than buying a new mount.

I'm certainly answering more questions these days than asking them....but that has only been possible through asking questions in the early days of my X type ownership.
I still say this forum is the best of all that I have been a member of.

Clyons....thank you for the pdf....yes that is the mount in question. Mine has a tear in the rubber bushing. I made a mental note to replace it....but it got deleted from my virtual notebook...hehe

That sounds like a pretty good price. Do you also need the upper motor mount? I priced that one at $110.00 from Jagbits.com.

Question: the lower motor mount in the PDF above, is that also called a "Roll Restrictor"? The dealer said I need both the Upper Motor mount and a Roll Restrictor. Is the lower motor mount (under the car) easy to replace?

The upper one looks pretty accessible at first glance, but who knows once you get in there and try to R&R it. Could be more difficult that it looks.

I get some pretty strong vibration in my steering wheel at 65moh, but then it smoothes out above 75mph. My car is a manual trans and shifting from 1st to 2nd is not very smoothe compared to other sticks I've driven. I thought that was because of the X being AWD, but I think it might be these 2 engine mounts

Yes Patterson, i believe the lower motor mount is also called a roll restrictor. I could not budge either of the two retaining bolts so i had my local shop do it, i did not have adequate tools or ramps at the time. It should only take about 10 mins to replace it.

I did not replace my upper mount, let me know how it goes if you decide to.

The lower one has enough room to work there, ramps are essential...a lift would be much better...get some PB Blaster on those bolts...they will probably be rusty...mine were.

After replacing the mount and driveshaft the car rode 100% better.

I believe that lower mount is a cause of various "hard to diagnose" vibration issues...easily overlooked and cannot be checked easily without removing it

Iownme, I see, so there is no need to support the motor/trans assembly while you remove and replace the lower motor mount?

I will buy the 2 motor mounts next month and let you know how it goes replacing them. I actually do have access to a lift, I just have to keep in good graces with my gf's grandfather. Not trying to show off, but here is my car on the Lift in his garage. The undercarriage is about 5 ft off the ground.
