my retrofit touchscreen vs my doubledin, lots of info
hey Dennis Im a little late with this but I recently purchased a 2003 x type with navigation. My issue is the screen is completely blank so I can't control the climate. Do u have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue! I have gone 2 local stereo shops and was told it isn't possible to fix. If you or anyone could guide in a step by step process it would be appreciated!!!!
Welcome to the forums. Best thing I could suggest is do some furfing around on here as this has been talked about numerous times. Or try this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...igation+screen
Good luck!
Good luck!
you need a kwi file or dvd rom ,ill see if i can find the zip file, if that does not work you can get a usd dvd rom on ebay for cheap ,but lets see if i can find that file
I am having a hard time understanding what parts were used for this build, I have the NavTool and 2005 Jaguar X-Type 10 speaker w/ Nav touchsreen. I would like to mirror your install but do you have a parts list somewhere?
Amazing!Beautiful beast you got there!I just got myself a touch screen unit too, thinking that it will be a straight forward job to retrofit as my car is fitted with the automatic climate controls and I don't want to use the sat nav function anyway. All I wanted to have a touch screen instead of the forest of buttons for the climate control and the radio. But as I see there is no chance to use it without all the other parts and moduls. So it seems like that I have a Touch screen unit for sale now if anyone is interested... :-)
you can still use the regular ac and other buttons they all work ,the added bonus is you get a multimedia center, all stock functions work even the old navigation , with my set up i can use google maps waze copilot on the screen, you feel like your in a 2016 car
Are you using a fm modulator for sound? I installed the NAVTOOL, camera and replaced all the speakers. Are you still using the WD TV LIVE? Could you send me a link of where you purchased it or model number, so many to choose from. How did you integrate the rotary dial pictured in past posts? Thanks
im now using android way faster you need at least 2gb of ram but for perfection 4gb kicks ***
i got rid of the modulator years a go , i modified my cd and tape player so its an aux in crisp sound ,just get a tape player and mod it for aux in ,the cd player is a little harder but i did it

Hi Dennis, i admire your retrofit jobs, I am trying to upgrade my basic stereo to have sat nav and Bluetooth, still acquiring the parts in bits. So far i know what equipments to buy, but don't know how to wire it in. I would be grateful if you can post the process of connecting the units together or if you have a pdf file you can send me, that will be smashing.

Hi Dennis, i only have the fibre optic cable because I recently added a cd changer to my car. I will get the sat nav screen and GPS antenna by the end of April, then I'll need the sat nav wiring loom, heater module and Bluetooth module to complete the setup I believe. If i am missing anything please advise.
I have a quick question that I can't seem to find while reading this thread.
I have the standard head unit in my 05 jag with cd changer in the trunk. I would like to buy a stock touch screen off of eBay. I don't need gps or anything fancy. Can I simply swap out the old unit for the updated touch screen? Do the plugs match up?

Hi Harry c,
I am in the middle of a Sat Nav retrofit to my X-type Jag as i havent got all the parts.
To answer your question you cant just decide you want a touch screen just because you prefer it, the sat nav touch screen is designed to work with a dvd module, fibre optic harness, satnav harness, GPS antenna, heater module as minimum package others can be added like cd changer, steering controls and bluetooth/phone. You might as well get the minimum package, because its not a plug and play system and even if you dont use navigation its there for you. Mine came as basic stereo head unit and i have added a cd changer to it which i am enjoying at the mo. Good luck

Hey guys
I am glad that this post is still active, I have researched everything +1 @Marque and @dennisblack for the vast knowledge and pictures. I am not a car mechanic never have I done this type of work before but I am a computer technician and SW engineer who loves taking things apart. Two days ago I saw this post and now I have my car doors disassembled and replaced alpine speakers (no go on the tweeter, to difficult mod but speaker mod worked well and sounds amazing.) I currently have the trunk and all components removed and the backseats are removed. The products I have are listed below with links to purchases (for others following this post)

11. Speakers for doors Kicker CS65 6-1/2" Coaxial Speakers with Polypropylene Woofer Cones (Pair) Black 40CS654 - Best Buy
My Choices and Thoughts of Why....
1. @dennisblack guide
2 & 3. @marque guide
4. #1 does not come with a audio interface, just VIDEO
5. This was recommended by NAVTOOL I just picked one that illuminated Green
6. Preference and ease of use
7 & 8. Audio in solution
9. @dennisblack guide
10. Important choice, remember fast processor and more ram the better. This particular one had good reviews and will start up when car starts. I will root and run a custom Rom and Launcher optimized for car use. Phone mirroring supported.
This project has evolved as my research continues but I feel the above setup will work for me. I will be adding other parts and re-finishing some dash parts, for sure though I need a T-mobile hotspot in car which is easy to do. Phone does Hotspot now and works with tasker https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....taskerm&hl=en but prefer the other option.
Final thoughts:
I finished one speaker install mod which required some modding of the alpine speaker bracket case using a rotary tool as well as sanded. I epoxy the Kickers to the bracket case and added some dynamat to the back put the door panel back on and it worked great with enough room between speaker openings, no rattle.
I am messing with ChromeOS to dual boot the android streaming device because allows for calls and texts through the OS. I don't just a thought.
I have not started any mods yet on the stereo system and I plan to work on it next week. @dennisblack @Marque is there anything that I am missing I have all the other parts i.e. AC/DC conv, wires, cabling, tools, etc. I am just wondering if in hindsight you would have done something different or added different products, etc? Can do bt and have added links below that can guide you where to get a device, to expensive for me right now though.
