hi there,
im Caroline, in new to here and just bought my first ever jag but seem to of been conned by the car dealer. Since I bought the car it runs like it's got a fuel blockage sometimes, it only does it when I'm using petrol mode, it runs great on LPG and the engine management light goes off but as soon as I switch to petrol the orange light comes back on and starts jumping like it's going to conk out. I've looked up the fault codes and it came up with 7 faults , OMG! They saw me coming. I will list the codes, I do know it's misfiring on cylinder 2 and 6 .

P0300, P0302, P0306, P1314, P1316, P1646, P1647 . I spoke to the garage, gave them the codes and they said it was simple and just needs sensors changing, I know that isn't the case, from the day I went to dealer I was lied to, took me for short test drive after running the car for a while first, we set off and I asked why the engine management light was on and he said not to worry it would go off when petrol was put in it as it had been run dry. Being stupid I believed him after him saying if anything went wrong with car they will put it right. It's a very long story but they are trying to get out of putting the car right. I think it needs too much doing to it and want my money back. Could anybody tell me what you think and also what the codes mean please
Caroline

Welcome to the forum Caroline,

I've copied this post from your Intro thread to X-Type forum for advice from members with the same model.

I see that your post has had a lot of views but no help yet. I am willing to give it a go with the warning that I am completely without knowledge of how the LPG option works. Petrol I understand and that's what I will address.
First the code P0300 indicates RANDOM misfires, P0302 and P0306 are definitely cylinders 2 and 6 which are when viewed from the rear of
the engine, the right-hand cylinder bank is numbered 5,3,1 and the left-hand cylinder bank is numbered 6,4,2.
The P1314 and P1316 are indications that the misfire is sufficient to cause damage to the catalytic convertors both the right and left bank.
The P1646 and P1647 are indications of the Oxygen sensor failure for the upstream sensors on both banks
The engine will run poorly and lack power because the ECM is keeping the engine in Limp Mode to prevent severe damage

Recommendations:
P0300 Random misfires are probably the result of vacuum leaks and there are some common problems causing vacuum leaks on the X-Type. They are the PCV Hose, IMT O-Rings, and the Brake Booster line. To really isolate the problems you would need a set of Short Term and Long Term Fuel trims
P0302 and P0306 i would recommend swapping one each of the ignition coils one at a time with the #4 coil and see if the fault moves to that cylinder if so that ignition coil is bad.
P1314 and P1316 will reset if the misfire conditions are corrected and the cats aren't damaged.
P1646 and P1647 I would first check fuses 38 and 42. They are good then you will probably need to replace both of the UPSTREAM oxygen sensors.

Hopefully armed with the knowledge now you will have a better chance of getting things sorted out with your auto dealer.

One of the common possible causes across a number of these codes is low fuel pressure.

The fact that the vehicle runs OK on LPG suggests inadequate or inconsistent petrol delivery. This could be explained by the dealer running the tank dry which will more than likely have contaminated and partially blocked the fuel filter. A simple fuel filter change could be the answer.

P1314 and P1316 should be taken seriously as they are indicative of existing or potential cat damage which is very expensive so the cause of the poor running on petrol needs to be eliminated a.s.a.p.

Bought from dealer. Faults are deemed by law to be theirs to correct so take it back.

Ask for a loan car while they fix it. If they are awkward warn them of their legal duties and that you'll hire a car and charge them for it. The law will support you.

Take someone else with you for moral support. preferably someone who has a grasp of how simple UK law makes this if the dealer proves awkward. (Read up online so you get it too.)

Hello every body! I'm out of this X-Type world or what? I never knew there was X-Type ran on LPG, I only know two type of engines the X-Type had: Diesel and Gasoline (petrol), as far as I know if you want the engine to run on LPG there must be a major conversion and must be done by certified mechanic. If his car in this case ran good on LPG, no surprise if he got problems when he put in petrol (gasoline?). Please some body correct me on this?

Our company converted our fleet of 1 ton vans to Propane back in the late 70's (think oil embargo days). When we ran out of propane, just turn an installed valve that let gasoline use, and no problem at all. Did notice a little better power boost but not like a turbo kicked in or nitrous!

You may have answered your own question. The dealer said that the petrol tank was run dry.

The fuel pump depends on being submersed in fuel for cooling; running below about an eighth of a tank will wipe out the very expensive fuel pump in very short order.

Take a look through all of the bad fuel pump emails on here, and you'll find a common link in most of them, "I ran out of fuel a few weeks ago, and now..."horror stories."

Cheers!
