I really like the car, paid $7000 Canadian from my brother in law who was leaving the country in a hurry. Its in great condition, except he had some cheap brakes installed in it. Also the left front window doesnt work (needs a mechanical piece or something).
My questions regarding the brakes n I hope you guys can help. When I drive I hear squealing and scrapping coming from rear brakes. Im thinking of ordering FERODO brakepads since according to one dealer Jaguar used ferodo pads in the xtypes. What do you guys (n gals) think. Any recomendations? Also how do I know if the brake discs need changing as well.
THankx, will put up pics if you guys want!

TWrecx, a lot of the members will tell you to use the EBC Greenpads. They have had good luck with them. There are also the Red pads that have been used with good luck.
I have upgraded my car to cross drilled rotors and ceramic pads and have been very happy with the upgrade.
As for how to check to see if you need new pads, the only way to really do this properly is to pull each wheel and look in the top of the caliper. You will see a large oval there. Using a flash light, look in that hole. If you see about 1/2" of pad, then the pads are almost brand new. If you are down to around 1/8", then the pads are worn out and need to be replace. The dimensions I am talking about are measured from the metal bracket (surface nearest the rotor) to the rotor. You don't need to physically measure it, but get an idea of how much pad is left. The other thing to check for is that the thickness of the pad is even across the whole pad. If you are getting more than about 1/16" difference side to side, then you have binding of the slide pins on the calipers. Pull the pins and regrease. This process works on all 4 wheels.
Welcome to the group and if you have more questions, just ask.

TWrecx, check out http://www.ebcbrakes.com. From there, you should be able to find a local shop that will sell what you are after. If you do a search on the internet, you need to look at "ebc greenstuff brake pads". Places like TireRack.com and that sell the pads.
If these are the stock pads, probably then it is time to consider replacing the rotors as well. If you excessive grooving, rust, or heat glazing you might want to do the rotors while you are doing the pads.
Nothing ruins a nice set of pads quicker than installing them on a bum set of rotors. Resurfacing is an option for solid discs, but I"d rather go new.
Rotors and pads for the X are carried by most major internet auto parts stores - autoanything.com, etc....
