Default New owner...quick question

Just picked up a 2005 X-Type with 25,000 miles and loving it. Everything seems to be in great shape. However, there is one noise that has me concerned. When the car is parked (no key in ignition) there is a constant whining sound coming from the steering column area. It almost sounds like a very small motor or fan that just stays on no matter how long the car has been parked. If the car is parked overnight I can get in and it is still going. SO...is this normal or is it something to be concerned about?

Great forum! Thanks in advance for the help!

Don't worry - it's normal. Its a small fan that supplys air to the car's HVAC sensors. Runs for a while after you shut the car off, and, comes on as soon as you open the door.
