Smile new x type owner from Swansea

hello to you all,
i'm in need of some help,i have picked up a 2.5 auto on a 03 plate, the car is in showroom condition fan bloody tastic not a mark on it anywhere ,now the car has 38362 miles on the clock with full stratstone jag history it is fully loaded with all the toys and i got it for a song, but the air con compressor is on the way out.
now i'm itching to use it and funds are a bit tight just after xmas to,can i disconnect the power to the air con unit and just put a shorter drive belt on it to get me by till the summer comes as i dont think that i will be needing it yet, also will i still be able to use the heater hot and cold as normal.

thank you all
arthur.

If you disconnect the power to the compressor it will act just like a belt tensioner. No need to bypass it altogether unless there is a bearing issue.

Hi,
It's the bearing that has gone I was told by the chap I got the car from.he also told me that he had a go at taking the pulley off but he has knackered the thred on the shaft,so he thinks that it will be a new air con compressor

No reason why you cant use a shorter belt, but finding correct length will be the issue as well as how much the tensioner will work in reduced run from idler to crankshaft pulley

At the cost of a new belt you could probably find a compressor on ebay for 25 quid?
Bit more work but?
