fan noise after shutting off?
One of my customers is reporting hearing a fan noise run for up to (he's timed it) 17 minutes after turning off his new XF. My immediate thought was to call road-side and get his car back here. He said he didn't want to be a bother if nothing was actually wrong, afterall, he hadn't seen an engine temperature change or any other warning. Normally I'd insist, but we happened to have a field engineer here that day and standing behind me. I asked him about any kind of fan noise on the new XF that could run for 17+ minutes. He tells me that the cars with LEDs lamps have small fans in the lamps to cools the LEDs and he's gotten reports of them running a long time. I checked out a lot car and I can hear the headlamp fans after turning off the car but it isn't loud. Now the customer is telling me that he hears the fan noise even when he has done nothing other than open the car door; he hasn't started the car.
Anyone else have experiences with these headlamp fans they can share? I don't want him to drive it if it isn't ok, but I can't convince him to let me get from him yet.

read someplace that Mercedes Benz,, if someone could come up with silent cooling fans, especially after shut down, they would make offer a million dollars!
it is one of the major complaints from customers.

Mine is a 2013 and I would say the longest that I've heard the fan run after running the car is 5 minutes....though it doesn't make sense that there would be fans for the LEDs--they don't/shouldn't get that hot.
This is specific to the 2016. The 2013 is the x250 model. The headlights on the 2016 do have tiny fans in them that run after the car turns off and the headlights do get very hot. My customer finally brought his car in, it was the headlight fans he was hearing.
How about that; that just seems really strange to me but I guess it's something to look out for, I'd assume it's the same case for the other models too.
Right!? I was glad our engineer was behind me when I got the phone call or I never would've guessed the headlights had fans. I wish Jaguar had more practical training for us so I knew those answers in advance instead of stumbling into the info. And yes, I assume the rest of the 2016s with full LEDs (XF, XJ, and XE) will have those little fans.

what happens if a fan goes defective?
could the plastic around the light overheat and catch FIRE?
or is there a warning light or notice of a problem.
seems there was a fire on a XJL a few months ago, right side front area of light!

Lol...sounds like the problem from the old XType...in that case there was a small fan that came on when the doors opened to expel the hot air from the air vents during hot weather!!! Funny to hear the same sort of problem come up again.
