Talking Newbie question

Okay I'd first like to apologize if this question has been covered before, but does anyone have the fuse box diagram (or owners manual) for the 2004 X-Type 3.0 US manual? Reason being is that my High Beams won't turn off (like in https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...turn-off-5948/) however it seems that advise given was for an auto x-type so the diagram and mapping are slightly different.

I have also tried downloading the Work shop manual however I have Win7 64 bit so it isn't working right now (still have to fiddle with it). Also the Handbook download link isn't working for me (pop up blocker disabled ect...) so it doesn't seem to be my night

So if anyone has a link to the PDF that would be great.

Again sorry if I missed a post for my model in my search.

Thanks,

04X, Please look in the driver's door jam and let me know when the car was made. There are slight differences that came out part way through the 204 model year. Nothing big, but Jag renumbered the fuses for example. So, you can see where this might be a little confusing. From there we can get you taken care of.

As for getting the JTIS CD to work, from my research, you have 2 options. The easier/cheaper one (but you don't get as much info) is to use a program like "Windows Explorer", access the CD, then click on the folder "DATA", then you want to find a folder labeled "X4052004.25" or "X4052002.25". As you can imagine, the 2004.25 folder is for the later 2004 cars and the 2002.25 is for the 2002-early 2004 cars. From there, get into the applicable folder and down at the bottom of the list of files will be a PDF file. Open this up and this will give you all your electrical diagrams.

But, based on your problem, I would venture to guess that your relay for the high beams (Jag calls them 'Main Beam') is failed, leading to the lights being constantly on. If you access the diagrams, that will show you what you need to know.

OPtion #2 is a little bit more costly as you have to upgrade your OS from either "Win7 64 Bit Home" or "Win7 64 Bit Home Professional" to one of the Ultimate or higher versions. The higher versions have additional software to allow running 32 and 16 bit programs in the 64 bit environments. If you need me to go into more detail let me know as you will more than likely have to get into the properties of the files and set them to something fairly specific.

Thanks for the Info Thermo, manufacture date was 01/04. Also I do have Ultimate 64bit and have tried running the install with XP SP2 through Vista (and ran it as admin), but no dice. I figure I'll just use explorer or boot up my Ubuntu machine and use Virtualbox.

Also to clarify, JTIS crashes on startup when ever I try to use it on Windows 7. Are there newer versions around or anyway to update the current version?

Ok through process of elimination I was able to determine that it is the indicator stork (which is weird because I can flash my high beams when my lights are off, but I can't turn the high beams off when my lights are on). I am right now I am trying the "unhook battery for 30 minutes" to see if that helps, but if it doesn't does anyone know where I can source an indicator stork? I don't feel like the paying inflated prices of the Jag dealer.

04, are you sure you actually have an electrical problem and it is just not a case where you might have bumped the stalk and moved it so the high beams are on all the time? You can activate the high beams momentarily by moving the stalk towards (I think it is towards you I haven't used that in quite a while) to you a bit. If you move the stalk a little further it will lock in place and have the high beams on constantly. Thought I would at least throw that out there as a possibility. You might not have a problem at all and maybe just have moved the stalk when cleaning or hit it accidentally or someone else had recently driven the car.

Alfa, it is a possibility that it got stuck open because I was in mid turn around a corner when I went to turn my brights off, (due to an oncoming car) so it was a bit of an awkward movement. Although due to the age of the car (2004) I am not sure how long those switches last, so I figure a contact is stuck/broken open.

Clyons, thanks for the link! This is a huge help.

Thanks everyone for you help, much appreciated.

How it should work is if you flick and hold the turn signal stalk towards you slightly the brights will light until you let the pressure off. You can also move it a bit more towards you and you will feel a slight click. That will lock the brights on. Click it again and the brights will go off. If you are saying that you had the brights already in that constantly on state and then tried to disable them in mid-turn I guess it is possible something mechanical could have broke. When you were in the process of trying to turn them off did you feel/hear anything in the stalk at that moment?
