Default OBD2 reading of TRUE odometer data

I want to buy an X-Type 2.2 D but I want to be sure about mileage. I know that using OBD2 tester (I have a general purpose one) it's possible to read the odometer data ( KM in Italy) but I'm not sure if that data can be hacked, I mean if can be modified using electronic tools. Any suggestion ? Is there a place in the electronic of diesel X-type where true mileage is stored and cannot be modified ? tks - essepi

If it's in electronics (and it is) then it can be changed. Can't imagine why anyone would do it on such a quite cheap car.

essepi, in order to change the mileage, you would need to change it in a few spots (not all are known by the average mechanic and mainly by the factory only). If you don't change the ODO in all the locations, it will toss a code and give itself away. Granted, if you are doubting it, you can most likely check with your local licensing place and see if the mileage matches up over time (ie, every year there are more and more KMs on the clock). If you suddenly have less, then someone got in and modified things.
