Default Oil Sump Gasket Replacement

Good day all

I hope one of you experts can give me a bit of advise.
I have a 2005 X Type. 2.1 V6. Rt Hand Drive. Manual Transmission.
The vehicle is in excellent condition with only 97000km done.
I have noticed that their is an oil leak around the Oil Sump and figured the Oil Sump Gasket needs to be replaced.
I was told my a Bosch Service Center ( I reside in South Africa), that to remove and replace the Oil Sump/ Tray Gasket would involve removing part of the suspension. Apparently quite a few other parts need to be removed to change the Gasket.

My Question is, firstly is this true? Does anyone have any advise on how to remove and replace this Gasket? Basically is there a simpler method that I can print and give to the Service Center. I am afraid that they may remove stuff that doesn't need to be removed and I am also concerned about them assembling everything again.
I should also mention that the Vehicle does not loss a lot of oil, where I need to keep topping up. I am a bit OCD though and would like the leak to be repaired.

Appreciate any Advise.
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards
Vemesh

There are tons of posts on this if you use SEARCH. The short answer is yes it involves disassembly of alot of parts. The shorter answer is in SEARCH there are posts of how to do a shortcut (drilling an access through the transfer case).

2.1 is FWD, so without transfer case in the way, it should be easy to replace gasket. I don't see what part of suspension could be in the way.

My understanding was ALL petrol X's are AWD? That only some diesels are FWD. I was wrong =

"Engines included either of two V6 petrol engines: 2.5 litre or 3.0 litre. In 2002, an entry level 2.1 litre V6 front wheel drive model was added."

so.......without the "unobtainium" hidden pan bolt under the transfer case, how could it be that terrible?

Thanks for the input Guys. Much appreciated .
The 2.1 V6 is a front wheel drive. I did read the Posts, Dell. But unfortunately couldn't make much sense of it. All the posts were also referring to the AWD. And coupled with the fact that although I love my Cars, I am unfortunately not very mechanically minded. Prefer Driving them and Polishing them up and admiring them. Especially after a few beers. Polishing and Admiring that is , not Driving .

Regards

Car Fan,

The 2.0d and 2.2d and 2.1 petrol models are all front wheel drive (FWD).
2.5 and 3.0 petrol models are all wheel drive (AWD), so these have a transfer box that sends power to the front and back wheels, and is bolted to the gearbox and gets in the way of removing the sump.
As your 2.1 petrol is front wheel drive only, it has no transfer box, so access to sump pan is easier.

Paul.

Thanks Paul
I find unless you take the vehicle to a Jaguar Dealer/ Workshop, many of the Service Centers are not familiar with working on the older Jaguars, for some reason.
But the agents are ridiculously priced. It's also a shame that some Jaguar Work shops don't want to service the X Type. I called the closest Jaguar Dealership to book a service once and they told me that they don't service the X type because they don't have the diagnostic equipment and referred my to another Dealership who has the diagnostic equipment and will service the X type. That dealer was a distance away though and was not convenient for me to take the car there.

Regards

Just in case for AWD cars, here's a short video with cut done that can be a reference point for you to get at the "unobtainium" bolt. I would use the hole saw bit per Brutal's suggestion but, whatever gets you there =
