Hello Mad Mike!
Loving the mod you did on your rear plinth, real professional job mate.
Nice 1!
In fact! It is so cool it should be put into production.
I changed mine to a 2010 style type ,but would like to try this maybe.
Cheers!

But what i did was remove the chrome part (do this very carefully cause i broke all the screws that hold it to the frame).
I also bought a detail hand saw ( like a mini rotozip at harbor freight only cost me $10! ) i went ahead and drilled into the letters carefully and then grinded out the lined area.
After all the letters were done, i bought an LED white light strip ($39.99) and gorilla glued it to the back.
i tapped into the licence plate light wire ( the right side light ) so when i turn on my headlights, it lights up.
And how do you prevent the water to leak in ?

Was contemplating this and thinking on the older one like my 03 STR couldnt this be done just using 2 seperate runs of the LED strip? Break it into a left and right (stupid trunk button in the middle) and then tap into the plate lights at either side for power?

Going to look at this on my STR plinth later today, but seems it should work, other than the possible water intrusion going to have to figure out how to stop that as well...

Nice work, sharp looking and clean I love it!!

What was the amp or voltage of the LED strip?
Did you make any kind of lens for the inside of each letter to protect the LED's? Despite them being weatherproof.

Cheers,

Jonesy.

Sorry I've been MIA but here is the link to the LED strip lights that i got ( i think it was these ) but they'll work just fine.

Also i did have to cut the strip in half because of the trunk button but i solder the with some extra wire i had from my amp install. As for the waterproofing of the wires, all i did was cover the wires with gorilla glue. the LED strip is completely waterproof. I did add some duct aluminum tape to shield the light from passing thru the back and showing thru the slim openings. (if that makes sense) I'll post up some pix tomorrow kinda explaining what i mean.

oh and the LED strip is 12v and i thought about using a clear epoxy to create a sort of make-shift plastic insert to protect the LED strip but the already have the rubber/plastic coating

Super Cool. The mirror indicators need more explanation, not only cool to but functional. As already said, now to led the leaper eyes! Have done that to a Mack Bulldog, but my Leaper would need micro surgery.

Hello Mad Mike,

I like everyone else so far am very impressed with what you have done with the boot plinth, my question is to do with your indicator on the mirror, how have you fitted the LEDs to the mirror to enable it to be seen by other drivers etc...

sorry i've been MIA, work's been crazy... anyways to answer about the side mirrors, i also bouht some LED strip lights (12V) but these were the 8 inch strip amber color. I took apart the assembly and this project did take 2 full days. I had to run the wires to the side marker lights and wire them together. the strip has 3M adhesive that works really well. I've had those lights on for a little over a year. I'll take pictures tomorrow to show how they look on the mount. one thing tho, i mostly had them put for night time use. you can see them during the day but the night effect is what makes it!

Any problem with the police?

It's not legal to have white lights in back while driving?

Nice mod ...Those LED's would have to be red , to be legal in UK . Only red allowed facing to the rear continuously . ( Amber only for flashers & white only as Back up )

The LED strips are available in red, and I'll wager that they'd look even better that way!
