Default Outside temperature sensor

My dashboard temperature reading is miles out.
when on a nice day of 20c my dash reading will say something like 65c.
Any ideas where to start with this one?
I haven't a clue.

20C is 68F; have you got the readout set right?

Yes that's correct - there is a small button that changes the readout from Celcius to Farenheit - maybe you are seeing Farenheit readout at the moment?

The outside temperature sensor is a common failing on the X Type although when mine failed it was reading too low. Setting the Frost warning light when I was wearing T shirts.

It's a cheap part (relatively) and a straight forward replacement.

There's a How To sticky thread. Look for "Ambient Temperature Sensor" in the Engine section of the How To stickies.
