Hi

So I got my 2002 2.5 x-type today which has engine light on, I plugged lapper in and it has a P1646 code, the previous owner said it was to do with bank one sensor 1 which he said has been replaced but light still comes on.

Is it possible that its another oxygen sensor at fault?

Can someone tell me where each oxygen sensor is on the car so I can check out to make sure bank1 sensor 1 has been changed.

I did read somewhere else that it might be a fuel pump relay, is this right?

ok thanks, ah yes came across that one earlier, only thing is he said he got all 4 replaced and that cured it.

I'll stick it in a local garage to determine exactly which one it is as I cant afford to throw money at it and replace all four

I see in JTIS21 P1646 says "LINEAR 02 SENSOR CONTROL CHIP (BANK 1)

Would I be right in thinking this means pre-cat sensor and not the one on the cat?

Also is bank 1 next to the bulkhead? and bank 2 is radiator side?

Which set is bank 1? 1&4 or 3&2

I dont want to assume sensor 1 is bank 1 although it would make sense but then I would have thought sensor 3 would have been sensor 2 being bank 2 but obviously its not.

Doesn't cylinder numbering just cry out for a consistent system!

The V8 is even worse with three different - current, alternate and historical cylinder numbering.

previous owner said he had bank1 sensor changed and it didnt cure the fault, just had a look and whoever replaced it replaced bank2 sensor, OE sensor ordered and will be replaced tomorrow :-)
