Default Possible fuel leak 2.2D Sport Premium.

I have a 2008 2.2D Sports Premium that appears to have a small fuel leak somewhere towards the front of the engine. (Not sure if it's connected, but I fitted a blanking plate about 3 months back as the EGR valve had died. Engine starts and runs better with it in place.)

After a journey I can smell fuel when I get out of the car and some drops come from just right of the centre of the front and about the same depth as the oil filter. I originally thought it may be that as it was covered in residue, but had that replaced during a recent service. There's residue over the oil sump and underneath that area of the car. It doesn't appear to leak when not in use, so wondering if it's a leaking pipe or something expanding when warm.

I'm thinking of lifting the air filter assembly to see if that will allow me to see better as looking from underneath isn't giving me any clues. Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks Rick.

Get it on a ramp if possible, take the undertray off and have a good look about!!

There is nothing fuel related at the front of the engine! Fuel pump/filter is at the back on the bulkhead, and the fuel rail pipes are on top, these are likely locations for a fuel leak. There is no fuel pipes near the ERG, so that sounds like a red herring, pull the engine cover off and check about whilst the engine is running, maybe a loose joint!!
Also get yourself on the UK forum, if not already, more of us diesel boys over there, the diesel was never imported to the states to my knowledge!! http://www.jaguarforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=26

"There is nothing fuel related at the front of the engine! Fuel pump/filter is at the back on the bulkhead, and the fuel rail pipes are on top"

That's not correct. The fuel filter is near the bulk head but the pump is on the front of the engine, near the EGR valve.

Leak is likely to be one of the pipe connectors on the pump but you can't guess these things. As suggested you need to get the undertray off and the air filter box might help and get a line of sight to the leak.

Found the leak!!! It was the metal pipe that connects to the fuel pump. I managed to tighten the 17mm nut by about an 8th of a turn. Time will tell if that will be enough, if not will see if there's an O ring in there and see if I can replace it.

Hopefully that will work! most fuel lines usually have flared joints, not sure about that one though, so tightening might work!!
