Default Programed new key fob now car wont start.

I recently purchased a used 2002 x-type. I purchased a new key fob on line as the old one was not working. I programmed per instructions on-line, now the car will not start and has security fail message on dash.
Is there anyway to correct this my own, or will the car need to go to a dealer?

You cannot program the "security pellet" (in the top portion of a key fob) on your own without dealer level software. Use SEARCH in this forum on all the reasons why.

Thanks for the responses. I only have one key and fob with the car. I figured it out.
I transferred the old pellet to the new fob and programed again and resolved the issue.
whew got lucky on that one.

Please get at least one other key\transponder assy.

It can cost several hundred dollars but things happen and an extra key will come in handy.
Lots of sob stories about losing the only key.

You NEED another key ASAP.

You have two options for this. First is to get another key (with transponder) and have the car programmed to accept it. The other is to have a CLONE made of the existing transponder.

You don't have to get the whole fob, just the standard key (with chip) will do the job. The fob is completely unrelated to the transponder, except as a way to carry it.

A third option is to take the transponder out of the key and permanently mount it where the reader ring will see it, then just use no-transponder keys and/ or fobs with the car.
