Question rear shock replacement

Hello guys,
I was wondering if anyone has replaced the rear shocks on a 2003 x-type, i had a few questions..
1. where can i get them at a good price?
2. are they hard to replace? do i need a lift?

I just had a tread on the repairs, I just did to my 2003
I got them just north of you from BC
Essex Distributors - Bilstein Shock Absorbers

they are very easy to do. 2 nuts and 1 bolt each.. You don't need a lift or and special tools. Just jack stands and deep well sockets.

Mr Fox, I had my independent replace mine yesterday (along with the transmission roll restrictor). As with the other coments, it was a quick fit (less than 1 hour for shocks and restrictor) Following advice on this forum, I purchased Bilsteins from eshocks.com.

Thanks for the info guys, i found Bilsteins on Amazon for $105, seems like a good deal.

So you guys are telling me i dont need to compres the spring?

FYI eShocks may have them slightly cheaper than Amazon:

And no, traditional spring compression is not required.

Why are Jag shocks so expensive? I think the last time I bought shocks for an American car I paid less than $25 a peice. Is it just because they're a for a Jag? Has anyone tried cross referencing a manufacturers part number and then shopping for a shock that's labeled as being for another non-Jag car?

In other words, shock manufacturers don't make a seperate shock for every single individual make/model/year. There might be twenty different cars that use the identical shock. I used to use this site when buying shocks for custom applications - http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloa...engthSheet.pdf

Couldn't you just look up the measurements of the Jag shock, and then see what other year/make/models use that identical shock, and then shop for those? For all anyone knows, a 2000 Dodge Avenger might use the same shock.

Or is it because it's a fancy brand?
