Default Rear Speed Sensor

My daughter's '01 or '02 X-type had a 1175 code for a faulty left rear wheel sensor. Replaced the sensor, light went out, drove it a short distance code came back. Is it a faulty new sensor or another issue w/ABS system?

Thanks

Josh

In all likelihood the reluctor ring on the CV joint for that wheel has corroded and/or broken away. If you take the sensor out [with the wheel off] look through the hole and you should see a notched ring as the axle is turned. It sort of looks like a ladder. If it is there, spin the axle slowly and watch the ring, you'll probably find a spot where the ring has broken. In any case, the outer CV joint has to be replaced.

Cheers,

Does sound like it could be the reluctor ring, although most set off the ABS light. You can check it as xjrguy says but the inspection window is right on top of the hub and you don't need to remove the sensor again. If the ring is still there (they crack due to the CV joint rusting and expanding) then it can be repaired with JB Weld and stuck back on, I did this with my own and its been a long term repair. New rings are also available to fit on the CV joint, just do a Google search.
