Reason for warning tone when switching ignition key to on?
Hello, my X Type Sport estate gives the warning tone when switching ignition to on. Historically this has always been a rear sensor or the sensor control unit and a straightforward fix, however this time I can't get rid of it and it's getting on my wick All sensors are ticking and I swapped the reversing control unit too, still doing it.
. I wondered if a low battery can cause it, although the battery has a condition lens in it and it's green. I had to reprogram a key fob the other day but that process worked perfectly, it crossed my mind could rotten batteries in the alarm back up in the wheel arch cause it, although the car is functioning fine.
Couple of questions therefore, firstly, does the warning tone cover other faults? The car has not seen much use lately. Also, anyone recommend a reasonably priced code reader that will read an X Type, I tried my basic reader and it says no codes.
Thanks in advance
There doesn't seem to be that may things that will generate an audible warning, but I guess it depends on what factory extras you car may have been fitted with.
Here are the typical warnings you will get from your x-type.
I think the only one that fits your key insertion and turning ignition on scenario is that the car is believing the gear selector is not in Park or Neutral position so it is warning you.
I also expect you would not be able to start the car either while you are receiving that error chime.
Just checking that you are not getting a seat belt indication light in the instrument cluster, nor any airbag error lights?
Thanks for the reply Mark, I think I have narrowed it down to an intermittent rear parking sensor. I posted on the forum as they were all ticking, but just returned to it and one was off, so I reconnected it and it worked.
In light of your reply I think this is the rear parking sensor system, (it is a manual transmission model by the way), so I will keep an eye on it and keep chasing sensors if the warning continues.
