Hi,

I would normally order parts from one of the online sites that leech off Worldpac like autopartsway.ca for my BMW. However, I noticed that the local Jaguar dealer has been cheaper for X-type parts than the online sites. Example: $123.50 Canadian for a waterpump while the online sites are around $291.

Normally I'd recommend staying away from dealerships but, at least here in Montreal, Jaguar dealers have been the exception w.r.t. replacement parts. Getting it serviced at a dealership is a different story.

yeah, well i'd like to take care of the leak, as soon as possible but, with university and college apllications, i really don't have time, and when i do, the parts can never be found, but il contact the dealer and find out

So, since the thermo stat isn't just specific to our vehicle, is it possible to use one out of a differetn vehicle, or just pic one up from a autowrecker or something???

still with these questions ? bro your are going to ruin your motor without that repair real fast.

its simple,

either go to or call your jaguar dealer and either pick it up or have it shipped.

send a pm me ken@britishmotorcars with your order.

then.... either do it yourself , or bring it to someone who can.




also, no on the autowrecker for the t-stat. why would you put a used t-stat to replace a used t-stat.

yeah, i know man, but the thermo stat isn't just specific for jaguar right? so i was wondering it i could go to say napa, and get one and just put it in myself, how long do u think i would have till this is a serious problem, the temp guage is running normal so let me know, and i havn't noticed anything out of the bottom yet. Sorry if i sound like and idiot, but when i meant used, i meant, one say for a different car, into the x type.

im not sure there if its interchangeable. get a genuine part, you wont regret forking the money over for it.

not sure, i have an xj. there is a low temp t-stat in the f/s section here. check it out.

Disco, you don't have to specifically get the thermostat from a jag dealership. This motor design is used on most of Fords 3.0L platforms. So, as long as you get a thermostat for your engine, all will be fine. There is nothing special about the Jag thermostat other than it coming in a box with the Jag name on it. I bet if you look closely, it will stamped with "Motorcraft" on it.

kk, well i found the upper radiator hose on abay for 120 bucks, so ill order that soon, and then see if they will instal it for cheaper, the mechanic quoteed me 326 bucks, just for the hose, and a 178 for labour, which is extremely high

Not if you got th correct COMPLETE UPPER HOSE ASSEMBLY which includes the plastic upper coolant manifold that is also the upper thermostat mount. That parts also needs a square shaped o ring to seal to the block, and the other end has another hose that goes to the upper coolant manifold. oh and that pipe is a common point for cracks to develop. Have fun that $178 is worth every penny if you have the whole thing to replace

well the mechanic said theres just a leak around the box thing ( sorry don't know the name) i don't think it will cost that mush or should cost that much, don't have much experince with mechanics

if its around the box thing(i assume the upper thermostat housing where it bolts to the block) thats where i said you will need the square(box shaped) o ring, and that and coolant is all you would need then. Without coming off rude can i ask from what experience then do you base the fact that it "shouldnt" cost that much to replace? I dont think it should cost $150 for a plumber to come to my house and unclog a toilet or sink etc...
But coming from the "if someone else can do it so can i" attitude i say go for it and do it yourself

no ur not coming off rude, it just dosen't seem like it, i can understand a plumber, but i've always ben able to get stuff done cheap, or i can do most of it on my own. But 327 + 178 seems like alot, for such a issue, but i guess its jag. My experince, is based on domestic vehicles thats why i think it should cost to much but whatever, i'm planning on getting it done soon. How can u tell if its actaully leaking or just the mechanics lieing, i havn't seen any leaks onthe pavement when ever the cars parked for a long period of time and the guages are all normal???

Disco, probably the easiest way is to take some paper towels and wrap them around the suspected joints (assuming they are stationary) and then hold them in place with a little bit of masking tape. Then, after a short drive (say 20 miles), you should be able to pull off the paper towels and see if any water has collected. Just make sure to try and avoid puddles and whatnot. Granted, normal water will be just a slightly darker spot on the paper towel where the coolant is going to leave either a green or orange spot behind.

kk thermo, ill try that, becuase, its not that i don't trust ur guys knowledge its just that his mechanic seems a bit fishy to me, not ur everyday joe blow that'll help move a couch lol
