Recommendations on replacement rear shocks?
I need new rear shocks as mine are getting to the point that I'm starting to feel like a boat when I go over bumps. Anyways, I have sport suspension and I was wondering what the difference is between the shocks I'm seeing that say they are for the sport suspension and those that say they are for the standard suspension. Also, is bilstein the only company that makes shocks for us?

Rear Shock suggestions
disquay, what did you end up going with ? I have the 02 with sport suspension and am being told I should start looking at getting mine replaced soon. Just wondering what you decided on and did you notice a change in ride feel. Thanks

Dgoose, the difference between the comfort/Heavy Duty shocks and the sport shocks is that the sport shocks are designed for a slightly lowered stance (ie, a 1.4" drop which came from the factory). But, in the big picture of things, they are close enough that you can swap between the 3 options. Now, when you start looking at what is difference (besides length) between the heavy duty, comfort, and sport shocks, that is a simple answer. It all comes to the valving in the shock and how fast it allows the shock to respond to bumps in the road. The sport shocks are what you could refer to as the medium stiffness shock. Obviously the heavy duty shocks have the stiffest valving and the comfort are just that. But, even the comfort shocks are still fairly stiff when compared to other shocks for other makes. The heavy duty shocks may be advisable if you tend to travel a lot with 4 or 5 people in the car. If it is normally just you, then any of them will do you just fine.

I've seen that Bilsteins are not our only option, Sachs makes spme for the rear and right now I'm looking for some because mines are leaking as we speak, I'm trying to debate which ones would fit me best, since i'm planning on lowering my car i do wanna go with the sport Bilsteins but they're single tube design and Sachs Shocks are twin tube design, wouldn't the Sachs be the better and obvious choice since they have two tubes instead of one?

I used the Bilstein HD's with H&R lowering springs and have about 10k miles or so on them and they work great. The car definitely feels better (or worse, some might say because of the stiffness) compared to the stock struts and shocks.
I might be wrong, but I think the twin tube design of sachs is less superior to the mono tube design of the Bilsteins.
Either way, from experience, I would choose Bilstein again.

eden, first off, the "Jaguar" shocks are actually Bilstiens. So, that is what most people go with. But, that leaves you with 3 options of shock styles as you have comfort ride, sport suspension, and then heavy duty. All 3 work on the car, it is then just how much interaction you want the shocks to have on the ride. The comfort ride is going to be like you most likely have on the car right now. If you go wtih the sports, it will be a bit more stiff than what you have now, but most don't notice anything overly negative with the setup. Then you have the heavy duty shocks which will have the biggest effect on the ride. Granted, the heavy duty shocks will also cost you the most and the sport and comfort shocks cost about the same in a lot of places.

Wish we had more choices
Monotube can take more abuse than twin tube in my research... most opinions of the "experts" echo this. I really want to find something other than Bilstein. Funny thing is... I always wanted Bilsteins in my other cars and they never had any for whatever I was driving at the time. Now I have no choice but to get them!? I say nay! I am gonna see if I can out smart years of engineering knowledge with my one brain - I'll let you know if what I come up with works.
