Default Removing Exhaust Tips

Has anyone taken these off? Do they even come off? I'd like to replace them.

Best I can tell they are welded so they only way they are coming off is to cut them off.
Borla makes replacement mufflers for the X-Type. They say it is a cat back system but it is just the 2 Muffs.

Yep, they're welded on. You should examine them carefully before tackling a project to remove them. Standard aftermarket tips won't fit because the the exhaust outlet doesn't come straight out of the mufflers - there's an S-bend in the pipes to clear the bottom of the bumper. You'd have to modify the new tips to fit and also custom fabricate a lower valance.

Your best bet might be just to go down the route of installing a borla system. I wish Borla offered a quad tip exhaust, but unfortunately they don't. Still their tips look larger and more aggressive than the OEM ones.
