Looks like the slide lock that locks the seat-belt to it is getting locked in and not resetting.

Anyway I found a local guy on craigslist that is selling his X-type by parts, I guess it died on him and he has the part for me for $25.00

Hi.

Had the same problem. Took it to the dealer to get it changed. He managed to clean the buckle with pressurised air. Has been fine for now a couple of years.

Default Seatbelt not clicking - mine too!

I bought a 2004 X-Type a few weeks ago and the very same thing happened to my seatbelt tonight. I'll try the air trick.

Hi.

AFAIK there is a proximity switch, a Hall sensor in the seatbelt buckle. This is a reliable system, as there are no moving parts. But any foreign objects, which may be hard to observe, may upset the system.

It turned out there was some trash in the buckle. All it needed was cleaning. That's a good thing because a buckle from Jaguar costs $25o!

Smile Wife jammed seat buckle

Every time I let my lovely wife drive my Jag, something always goes wrong or breaks. I'm pretty sure it's because she speaks badly of the old Cat.
Most recently, the seat belt receiver would not let her strap in (unable to click and lock) ... to go shopping ... for clothes of course. The old Cat just did not want to be driven by my wife that day. So, as expected ... the wife is very unhappy since she could not shop and goes on and on that we now need a new dependable car ... for which I say ... Sure I'll start looking for a newer Jag. A she gives me that look ... you know the look (Hell No or maybe over your dead body).
So as always, I check with my best friends at Jaguar Forum and figure out how to fix what she breaks ... (Cleaned stuck locking mechanism in receiver)

Till next time my wife drive the Cat :')

Thank you for all the help.

Mike
