Shifting Problem 2006 X-Type
2006 X-Type Estate 3.0.
Got the car running, but will only shift into reverse or neutral.
The shaft going into the tranny that attaches to the front end of the shift cable is corroded is hard to turn.
Should be able to turn easily by hand when the cable is removed, but now requires vise grips or channel locks.
Would spraying with Kroil or Kimball Midwest, loosen this up enough to shift?
..... or does this require extensive tranny work?

Hi Floatcat,
Likely you have the corroded shaft binding within the plastic bushing....

The selector shaft sleeve is "obsolete" ... unavailable form any sources; Jag dealers, Jag Bits, Welsh, etc.
A used one will probably be junk and I doubt any boneyard will extricate one from any salable transmission that they may have in stock. So it looks like I will have to make the part.
I'm pretty sure mine will be toast by the time I get it out. Does anybody know where I can get the specs for this part so I can have fabricated? ...... possibly 3D printed?
