Sirius XM Radio new service in a 13 year old Jag
Hi - I am a noob, who just purchased a sweet little 2006 X Type Wagon - the vehicle is in pretty good shape, (less than 60k miles, with a pristine interior, but there are a few dings in the lower portions of the body and bumpers, where the previous (senior ) owner encountered objects with greater mass) - and I am working though some issues (headlight adjusters, leak at the cabin air filter, et cetera) and a check engine light that appears to be connected to a catalytic converter error.
But, in searching the forum, I have not been able find a good answer about the XM radio service. I would like to transfer my prior service to the vehicle, but I currently don't have any sound from the preview channel. I am not sure if this is normal, or there is some issue that is preventing the audio. I used the XM menu to determine I have at >50% SAT signal strength - which I understand to mean that I am getting a signal from the sky; AND, when I power on the XM, with the radio set to the pre-selected FM channel, the radio drops out - but I don't hear any broadcast from XM.
So, my questions is - do I need to subscribe to XM just to get sound, or is there some issue that is preventing the radio from playing the XM broadcast on the "preview" channel (184)? XM wants $15 to transfer my service, but won't guarantee it will work since I don't have sound on the preview channel. I don't mind spending the $15, but if it isn't going to work, why bother? Thanks in advance; any insight would be appreciated.
