So how did I end up likeing this car so much?
I had problems with my X-type before I even left the lot, had a terrible dealer have me bring the car back numerous times, with little resolution. It rattles, the electronics seem to work when they feel like it, and it STILL smeels like burning oil most of the time, but somehow I've formed a bond with it. I was very eager to trade it off after a couple months of ownership, but now I don't have the urge to see it go. Even bought some new rims because the factory 16's just didn't do it justice. Funny how things like that happen.

mine has been angering me in the last 2 weeks, check engine light came on, brought back to dealer, they had it for 4 days.Once i picked her up, she died on the way home, this time adding in overheating. So the jags back at the dealer again, and I'm carless for 2 weeks now, and god knows when they'll handle it. I havent had any real problems with her, but she developed some "jaguarisms" like...if i close the passenger window, she might just decide to lower it on the way up. Hit a bump, and the heat turned off...but its ok, i like difficult women, so the car matches.

Im having the same problem as you somekid, i have had a few problems with mine, check engine light, overheating, Etc. Ive only had her for a year. Iwas thinking of trading her in for a BMW, but i cant bring my self to pick out another car. I think i might trade her for another Jag, a newer model.

I've had to replace a clutch and a transfer case. However, even with that, I love this car because I have one of a few X-Type Sport 5MT's in the area. I've only seen 3 others, and one an Ohio tagged car.
I'm thinking of selling my Explorer, giving my fiance the Jag, and buying a Z4 or an S2000. I've wanted something I can toy around with that I can modify. Either of those weigh under 3100 pounds so I may in for one soon.

Are you prior service? I would not recommend joining in any case unless you're suicidal. I've lost alot the the marine corps. and wouldnt let anyone i give a **** about join the service now. we are hated all over the world, and yes, i've been shipped all over to witness it first hand. stay home.

i do not disrespect any man already in service, im aware of the sacrifices and dangers etc, as i have 2 tours done already. Who the hell are you anyway to dictate what i should take from the **** i've seen in MY military service? should i keep my mouth shut and say how wonderful the service is and all the wonderful lies recruters tell 17 year olds? unless you have something positive to say, shut up. My contract is up in 5 months, but that doesnt matter as i've been "stop lossed" and extended till august 09. You sign, your life is no longer yours. I do no disservice to MY brothers in arms, by my comments above. only looking out for someone that could make a very big mistake.

I am sure that the US military is about the only thing that is improving the American image. What can anyone of you say that you have personally done to improve the american image. How have you gone out of your way to show that the reputation is wrong. How many of you know what the american image is?
I really dont mean any offence by this but Americans are hated the world over for ... well.. for being American. The general lack of respect for the culture of the places they visit, and the bull in a china shop way of being an American tourist is what irritates most people. Decades of arrogance as tourists has miffed the world over.
I would like to think the opinion by somekids is not that the military is hated.. it is just the "american-way or the highway" attitude that is hated. I mean the ongoing war was started a long time ago... and I am certain that they hated US first, so there is absolutely nothing new or earth shattering that was said.
Military guys are generally good.... and needed, but nobody likes to send a loved one away to fight for a cause that is unclear, and not universally supported. And the death toll is rising without any progress.
That is some of my observations. I personally dont like the US for the utter waste of energy and resources, and the non-caring about it.
I dare ya to post something about R134a and global warming.. hahahaha....

unfortunately the military is hated abroad. you are correct about the hatred for our ideals, and american way or the highway. But i was sent to Norway, and there was a small riot/protest about our presence. I was sent to japan, not okinawa, but Camp Fuji, the locals wanted nothing to do with any of us (This was tokyo, mind you). We werent allowed into bars, clubs, strip clubs or any other place of entertainment. We were greated with a " No americans allowed" at the door (literally), we just went back to the barracks. I was on a humanitarian mission in africa for 2 months, and we were still hated and attacked even though we were unarmed and feeding locals, providing medical care for children and animals. Our image is destroyed abroad unfortunately.

i experienced the same thing you said about "no americans allowed" in okinawa. which was basically code for "no US armed forces" allowed. As far as US citizens on Okinawa...99% are military or military related. i'm not military and i've got facial hair and do not look like military.
the best thing you can do in that situation is just say ok and walk away. If you flip out, you've proved their point.

RE: So how did I end up likeing this car so much?
Jeeesh.........from how did I end up liking this car so much...........to we all hate America[&:]
How did we go sooo off topic on this one?
My input as a Scotsman and a point of view from the UK perspective.
I've met 2 or 3 American soldiers over here after a tour of Iraq and found them to be great guys, very polite, yes sir no maam and the like and got on well with them. One of them we gave a ride to and a bed for the night, so appreciative and still keeps in touch, even now.
Personally, I'm a fan of America and Americans in general. Ok, some can be LOUD OTT and a PITA but so can we all to some degree.
Generally, US and the UK have a bond and we both stand up for the rights of the little guy, maybe the US does the Big brother thing and its for your own good a little too much, but the basics of what they do are, I believe , for the right reasons.
So sorry to hear that US soldiers are treated this way overseas....a real shame.
Anyways, this topic is now so far off the original thread that I'm gona close it. If anyone feels the need to continue this discussion, please open up a thread in the " off topic" section where we can all discuss in more detail.
Cheers
Jim
