Default Steering Wheel Compatibility

I have an 03 X Type. I see an 04 x type steering wheel, are they the same setup as my 03 or did the mounts change then?

In looking at the steering wheel mounts for the cruise control and etc doesnt appear it would be a direct swap out...the search continues...unfortunately it doesnt seem they made to many in the wood grain for my years...poo

The Parts Catalogue lists a Steering Wheel change at VIN D85597.

Within the trim and material options available, there are many more VIN change points but this is probably only as a particular trim was introduced / replaced rather than a design change.

I believe you can swap wheels if you swap all the controls on it too. So, you'd need the entire wheel. I have an extra one, with controls, but it doesn't have leather on it anymore. I have a custom wheel wrap, and I bought an extra wheel for them to use to make the wrap so I didn't have to have my car down while they did it, so the leather got pulled off both my wheels.

Does the steering wheel have a special tool to remove it?

It mentions a clockspring in the manual and wasn't sure exactly if that is difficult to remove or not

The clock spring is the bit that the indicator stalk goes too.

Shouldn't need to remove that.

Its one of the easiest wheels I've taken off a car to be honest. You need a number 50, or 55 I think, torques bit. Maybe its a 45...I cant remember. That and a short flat head to release the air bag from the wheel. The air bag is the hard part. Make sure you disconnect the battery and let the car sit for at least ten mins before you do though. You could also pull the fuse for it if you wanted to be extra sure. There are little openings in the back part of the wheel and you have to get the flat head in there and "pop" the air bag's tabs loose from the wheel's tabs. Although that's on the 04 wheel.
