Default Steering wheel removal & reinstallation

I just ordered a new steering wheel off of Ebay (wood and leather) and am wondering how hard this would be to install myself. Anyone have any experiance with this?

2003 X-Type

Thanks! Also, anyone insterested in buying a MINT condition Black all leather steering wheel (minus Airbag)? $50.00 plus s/h ($15 US shipping only).

Should be an easy remove and replace....you will need a steering wheel puller or the good'ol dual hammer trick works well too...(if you're not sure what I'm talking bout, don't worry)

Make sure you disable the airbags, as you never know what can happen.

When you disconnect the battery the air bag still has stored power. Here is how the JTIS explains removal:-

ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG SRS VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG MODULE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

CARRY A LIVE AIR BAG MODULE WITH THE AIR BAG AND TRIM COVER POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. THIS WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

DO NOT SET A LIVE AIR BAG MODULE DOWN WITH THE TRIM COVER FACE DOWN. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAG MODULE. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

I would wait longer than one minute...at least 10 to let the charge drain from the capacitors.

Press the driver air bag module in whilst loosening the retaining screw.Loosen the driver air bag module left-hand retaining screw. Press the driver air bag module in whilst loosening the retaining screw.Loosen the driver air bag module right-hand retaining screw. Detach the driver air bag module. Disconnect the driver air bag module electrical connector. Remove the driver air bag module.Disconnect the driver air bag module electrical connector.
Position the front wheels in a straight ahead position and centralize steering wheel.
Remove the steering wheel.
Using a suitable insulation/masking tape, secure the cassette module to prevent movement from the centralized position.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Tighten to 47 Nm.

Take care not to damage or twist the driver air bag module cables.Attach the driver air bag module. Press the driver air bag module in whilst tightening the retaining screw.Tighten the driver air bag module left-hand retaining screw.Tighten to 5 Nm. Press the driver air bag module in whilst tightening the retaining screw.Tighten the driver air bag module right-hand retaining screw.Tighten to 5 Nm.Connect the battery ground cable.

There you go, easy
