Temperature gauge position
What position does your temperature gauge run at?
I have had my 2005 X-type since February and it has always run at just below half way on the gauge. It gets to that position within a few minutes but never goes any higher.
Even during the cooler months. I am temporarily in South Africa.
Just curious as my Ford Focus used to run lower at about 1/3 way up the gauge.

Same here - just a fraction below the middle or occasionally a fraction above the middle - never higher - even when the fans have cut in when in a traffic jam which I find worrying as when I had the XJ, and other non Jaguar cars the temperature guage was far less static..
Yes my gauge is invariably just a tad below half way - even during the hotter days here in OZ (35-40ºC) Fans may cut in/out more frequently or remain ON longer during these times to compensate for the higher ambient temp and/or slow movement of car in traffic, but the gauge appears to remain pretty constant.
The gauge software ensures the gauge rises linearly to a basic 'normal' operating temperature. The gauge then stays static regardless of 'normal' variations until there's a real problem when the temperature exceeds the 'normal' limits and takes off as others have said!
Doesn't cover the X Type, but check this link out for other Jaguars

It actually is moving in that center range, but a 30 degree (F) excursion isn't the width of the needle.
I know the UK remappers can fix it be changing the programming table.
That is one thing I will grant the Land Rover...you exactly where and when you toasted the head gasket!

Thanks for the replies and link, very interesting.
That position on the temperature gauge seems to be the norm which ever part of the world we drive in.
I did not realise the members of this board were from so far and wide.
