Guys, after 4 years I've now parted ways with my X-Type. I'd like to thank all of you who have posted DIY fixit information - you've certainly made ownership a more pleasant experience! A special call out to Thermo - his advice (mainly provided to others) has been invaluable!

According to my trusty spreadsheet, over the 1,473 days I owned the X-Type:

- I drove 54,921 km (34,126 miles)
- I used 6,897 litres of fuel, at an average of 12.56 l/100km, or 18.73 US MPG
- Replacement parts/repairs/enhancements included:

- Transmission rebuild
- Mudflaps
- New key remote fob
- Leather brake gaiter
- Headlight rebuilds both sides (the wife came home and asked what I was baking in the oven - she wasn't expecting the reply of headlights!)
- T/Case and Diff oil replacement using Liqui Moly oils
- Centre bearing replacement and balance (made the driveline totally silent)
- New brake discs and pads all 'round
- Replacement of the cassette radio with a CD one
- Many, many, many headlight bulbs until I replaced the stock connectors with spade terminals (2 minute job)
- New water pump
- New thermostat and piping
- Replacement top breather hose
- Gearbox roll restrictor
- Fan control module (not needed when I figured out it was the thermostat)
- Replacement windscreen washer jets (the bottoms of them became brittle and snapped off inside the washer hoses)
- Replacement roof rack mounting thingy (the part that slots into the roof)
- New Bilsteins all around
- New floor mats
- New boot/trunk rubber seal
- New boot/trunk shocky things
- Rear sill treadplates
- Roof racks
- 4 x Pirelli P1 205/55R16 tyres

Actually the list is longer than I thought!

However, despite all the replacement parts, I thoroughly enjoyed driving the Jaaaaag (the replacement Honda won't have nearly as much character), and am looking forward to picking up an XE in a couple of years.

I hope we see you back in an XE. Two years in a Honda is one of my worst nightmares!

Slocs, stick around. Just because you don't have a jag in the stable at the moment doesn't mean that you have to leave. You have a lot of info that others might find of interest. Besides, this is also a good place to figure out what you will want in your new XE. Hint, hint, hint.

 

Slocs, I haven't had my X-type for almost two years but I still come back to the forum (post count is now over 2000) for a couple reasons:

1 - I may just have a tidbit to share with a new member

2 - This is actually THE best, most informative and friendly forum I've been a member of

Actually #2 is probably the #1 reason. The Lexus and Honda forums are a bit less active.
