Default Tranny fluid change questions

What specifically do I need to change the x-type transmission fluid? A funnel, an oil pan, and like 9 quarts of transmission fluid? Any brands you would recommend? Thanks.

ill tell you what i did. drain pan, 24mm wrench. 11 qts of castrol import multi vehicle atf. One atf funnel. remove drain bolt and 3.5 qts of atf should drain out. install drain bolt. remove rubber plug, place funnel in hole. add 3.5 qts. drive for 5 min. start over. I did this three times 10.5 qts. good luck.

Wow, 10 1/2 quarts... Was thinking maybe 9. Well thanks for the help! Will give it a try when I have time and let you know the results.

Pull the transmission drain plug, let it drain out. Put back in about 3-3.5 qts, drive it around for a week, do the same thing. Keep doing that until all the transmission fluid is changed. I think personally that this is the best way to change out our transmission fluid.

Any fluid that meets the specs of IDEMITSU K17, JATCO 3100 you'll be fine with.

Search tool, Zach. Your best friend for new owners. There are lots of pics posted in other threads.

WATCH OUT!!!

There is a bolt on the tranny that looks like a drain plug, but is not. Loosen it and it will kill off your reverse gear.

Should I drain and refill with 3.5 quarts regardless of amount that drains out? I want to be sure I'm getting the proper amount back in. Not sure if the right amount is in of the old fluid. I am assuming it probably is because the transmission seems alright, but it could be low or high. Anyways, I don't want to mess it up but the the leveling bolt sounds kind of like a pain to get to without jacking the car up being how low the car is.

Most posts ive read say 3 qts, and 3 qts is what came out of mine when i did it.
What say the experts?
Over/under filling is never good.
(I did this 3 times over 1 week)
Luckily i found the real jag stuff on craigslist for a few bucks a qt :@)

So far I've drained and filled back up twice, one more to go. The transmission feels a lot stiffer and stronger!! The fluid in it was dark brown and had a few clumps of goo in it. Definitely due for a change. Replacing it all with Castrol multi-import. One sketchy thing happened though: I was using the emergency jack and raising it up and all of a sudden the jack gave out and the car dropped down. Luckily I wasn't underneath it at the time because I was using it before to get under the car!! So be warned, those emergency jacks are not shop lifts... Will have to invest in a proper jack and some jackstands soon. Other than that the fluid change went well. I had trouble getting to the fill location though until I removed the battery and got the battery tray out of the way, but it was not that big of a problem after I figured that out.

Changed the fluid. Drives much better now. Old fluid was very dark.
