I have been researching what types of fluid would be
appropriate for a fluid change in the X-Type automatic
transmission other than the Jatco sold by the dealer in the
gold bottles.

There are two criteria I have been researching; suitability
(ie. meets or exceeds spec) and compatibility (ie. not a
chemistry experiment when mixed with remnants of the
original Jatco fluid).

I have finally found two fluids that claim compatability in
their spec sheets. Both Mobil 1 Multi-Vehicle ATF

and Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF

specify that they are 'suitable for use in vehicles that
specify....Idemitsu K17'

Will they play well with the Jatco that is in the tranny if
mixed? I don't know.

Be aware that I wrote Mobil 1 with this question and they answered

"We meet the K17 spec for our Mobil multi-vehicle new formula but we would recommend that you go to the dealer for this fluid."

 

What about Dextron VI?

 

Excellent report Bill..but basically I get the same with Royal Purple Multi spec and Valvoline Max Life...neither has concluded they are safe to MIX with the original JATCO fluid..

So we are still at square 1 again..
