Question VIN # Question About Part Fit

I have been told to see if a part will work you have to look at the last 6 digits of the VIN. I have a 04 X-Type 3.0 and am trying to get a fuse box for it. My first digit of the last 6 of VIN is D, the car I found with one located by me starts with a E. I want to truth if anyone can help but I am just praying it will work so i can get my car going again. Thanks!

This does not always work. I have tried on several parts and non-jaguar dealers kind of scratch their heads. Perhaps they are simply unaware of how this works?

well what I am needing is a fuse box, by the looks of their car on the internet it is a sport edition, mine is just the base 3.0. It would seem to me I just wouldn't fill the slots that mine isn't equipped with which is stability control. Maybe I am just wishing too much and it doesn't work like that. I should have stated this earlier so you knew what I was looking for, but if anyone knows the answer for this one,its appreciated. Thanks.

XtypeJagMan, you have to be cautious with getting a fuse box for an 04 car. In the 2004.25 timeframe (ie, early months of 2004), Jaguar did a little upgrade to the electrical system which installed new fuse boxes. The exact differences are impossible to say, but the big thing that I noticed is the fuses are numbered differently and the plugs connecting them are different. So, it wouldn't be something that with moving around a few wires that it would be made to work. If you can tell me the build date of your car (written on the build sticker in the driver's door jam), I can tell you whether you have an early 2004 or a late 2004 car.

mine was made in 10/03, the salvage yards was built in 03/04, the Jaguar dealership where I bought my car said ti wouldn't work, but yet didn't sound truthful. Your help is very appreciated. I am either running into people wanting too much for them, they are from a 2.5 or the salvage yards not getting back to me.

Xtypeman, well, the one from the 03/04 one will not work. That is when the first of the 2004.25 models were coming out. But, the fuse box from a 2.5 is the same as that for the 3.0. You can also use the box from out of an 03 model too. So, that may help widen what you can find.

XTypeMan, I would simply be asking for a fuse box from an 02 or 03 Jag. All the cars in the US will have the same fuse box. Then you can swap out the fuse box and be done with it. When you start looking at 04's, that is when things get iffy.
