Thumbs up Weak alternator and oil leak

I pulled the alternator out of the X-type yesterday and also as I had mentioned I had an oil leak. The oil leak appears to be from the valve cover gasket closest to the radiator. Both valve cover gaskets were replaced 8000 miles ago by a British car repair shop. Kind of hit and miss with them.

Two questions:
* Is the cylinder bank closest to the radiator the left side or the right?
* Is the 3.0 engine the same as the 2.5 as far as the gaskets?

Left side
Part Number: 651-07172833
Brand: Mahle

Right side
Part Number: 651-07315401
Brand: Mahle

Thanks in advance!

I picked up my alternator today and the gentleman who rebuilt it said oil ruined it. Anyhow, new gasket comes in tomorrow and I'll start the repair on Friday.

I would encourage you to use the OEM cam cover gaskets and spark plug boss seals. I personally haven't had any luck with the aftermarket gaskets/seals as they're prone to premature failure.

I also noticed the back cam cover (valve cover) is leaking, most definitely the aftermarket gasket seals didn't work.

DO NOT USE AFTERMARKET GASKETS, USE Jaguar OEM gaskets only.

I had the alternator rebuilt as it failed due to oil damage. I replaced the front cover gasket as it was leaking and I will end up doing the rear at a later date.

This is how bad the gaskets were leaking. The oil in the spark plug galley was a surprise.
