Default What can I expect to break/have to reset, etc. once I disconnect the battery?

I have to try disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery to try and track down a problem that occurred today. I'm just afraid that after I do it all hell will break loose. One thing I'm worried about is the stereo not working anymore and requiring a code (premium system, non navigation with cd player, no cd changer). However, when my battery died last week, I didn't seem to have to put in a new code.

I have a 2004 Jaguar X-Type. After moving my drivers seat up vertically with the power seat button, and tilting it more toward the steering wheel, later I came back to the car and the seat wouldn't work. Also, the heated seat button on the drivers side doesn't work, and both mirrors won't move from the buttons on the drivers door. The memory seat buttons don't light up at night like they normally do either. The passenger seat is completely fine. I checked the F16 drivers seat fuse and it is fine. I also tried checking the wiring under the seat and it seemed fine as far as I could tell. I am assuming all of these parts are connected and no power is going to them. From looking at the JTIS wiring diagrams for the 2004 sports brake, the most obvious thing seems to be the drivers seat module and from what I found online disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 10+ minutes resets the drivers seat module.

All I had to do when I pulled the battery was reset the clock and the bass/treble/sub settings

Disconnecting the battery doesn't reset the seat modules in the XJ or XK models. They are labelled 'This Part is Programmable'.

Is the X-Type different?

You may have to reset the electric windows or they will not close on one press.

On mine the seat/mirror memory was retained so it sounds like another issue is causing the OP's electrical issues

Today I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for around 2 hours. I also took out the entire drivers seat, inspected all the wiring (which looked fine for the most part), then put the seat back in and connected the battery. Afterward the seat worked again. However, while tightening up some of the bolts, I noticed the seat stopped working again. I closed the drivers door and opened it and the seat worked again. That was the last problem I had. So, although it works now, I'm still suspect that there is a problem here. I'm leaning towards either a bad seat control switch or a short in a wire somewhere. Hopefully it doesn't break again for a while, as winter is coming and I want my heated seat.

And yes, the only thing I need to do now is fix the windows auto-up feature.

When you open the door and keep it open, there is power on the seat motors only for about ten minutes before you have to either switch ignition on, or close and open a door to get the power back again. Interior lights go out at the same time. It's all part of the car going to 'sleep' to save the battery - not just the Battery Saver Relay that does the interior lights and ambient air sensor fan, but other modules too.

You should hear a soft 'click' inside the door as the limit switch resets.

I had to reset my air con. It would only blow hot air. You have to cycle the temp all the way down and then all the way up to reset it.
