Wipers turn on when starting the engine
Hello guys!
Recently I joined the Jag owners club so I'm quite new...
Now something strange is happening, each and every time I start the engine, windshield wipers would do one cycle.. There's no rain sensor mode as far as I noticed (see the picture attached?) Tried to search for a solution but no success.
Did anyone of you guys had the same issue and managed to solve it?
It is Jaguar X-type 2.0d 2004.

Lexa, it would appear that you have a wiring issue at the base of your steering column. In short, what is happening is you have the wire coming from your ignition switch and that which powers the wipers being shorted together. I would need to check the diagrams to see if there may be another location that can cause this issue.
On a side note, could you look in the driver's door jam and state the month/year that the car was built. Because you have a 2004, there are 2 different wiring diagrams for the vehicle (there was a mid year upgrade that happened). This will help me use the correct drawings for your car and be able to give you more detailed information.

Lexa, I want you to try something for me. Before you get into the car, I want you to open the hood and remove the relay for the wiper motor (this will be in the engine bay fuse box, it will be relay R1 if your car was made on/before March 2004, relay R4 if it is made after March 2004). Now, attempt to start the car and see if the wipers move. If they do, then odds are you have a wire at the ignition switch that is contacting the power wire for the wiper motor. If it doesn't, then odds are you have part of the ignition switch contacting a white wire with a green stripe that is causing the wipers to do a single swipe (flick swipe, generated when you pull back on the wiper stalk).
Another thing to look for when you start the car is whether the wiper is going at a normal (slow) speed or if the wiper is taking off like a jack rabbit like you flipped the wipers to fast. This will tell me what wires we need to be looking at.

Because you pulled relay R4 and things didn't move, then that is telling me that you have a later design car (ie, made after March 2004). This will be useful information for when you need to get parts and whatnot. With this being said, odds are, you need to look in the steering column for a wire that has been damaged and is rubbing against something metal and is shorting out. If I remember things correctly, there should be a shaft or two that moves when you start the car. That would be the area that you will want to focus on first.

Not sure you will find our membership has much experience or reference material to delve into the intricacies of your Skoda.
You might instead need to seek out a Skoda or a VW forum to see if other owners of that model or vehicle series have any insight for you.
Here are a couple of suggestions I found online...the later is for a Kodiaq but principle might be similar.
